The Golf Club weekly review
Monday, Jan. 23, Green Valley (white tees) – Stableford
1st Andy Makara (28) 41pts
2nd Peter Thomas (19) 37pts
3rd Peter LeNoury (14) 35pts
It was the usual suspects on the podium today art Green Valley and darksider Andy Makara was on top. Andy seems to fluctuate between having a great month of golf and a few months of “normal” play but this round could kick-start his purple patch!
Peter Thomas was also back in the good numbers for second place after a month’s drought and that golfin’ machine Peter LeNoury with a solid 35 took third. Andy Leach took the Caddy Smile near pin on the day.
Tuesday, Jan. 24, Treasure Hill (yellow tees) – Stableford
1st Andy Leach (8) 34pts
2nd Brendan Gallagher (0) 33pts
3rd Peter Thomas (20) 32pts
The best value golf course in town attracted a full sign-up sheet and at 1,150 baht for green fee, caddy and buggy this will always be a popular venue. Condition of the course was very good and we were looking forward to a great day of golf ahead of us.
Scores here are usually on the low side and today was no exception. A mere 32 points saw Peter Thomas on the podium again for third place while TGC resident Brendon Gallagher, that long hitting Aussie who plays off scratch, took second place with 33. One point better was Andy Leach and his 34 made for best of show for the win.
Blake Hanna snuck in there with yet another near pin!
Thursday, Jan. 26, Greenwood A & B (yellow tees) – Stableford
1st Louis Ventimiglia (21) 42pts
2nd Alan Rothwell (7) 40pts
T3rd Bryan Carroll (17) 39pts
T3rd Kenny Aihara (5) 39pts
5th Bahadur Lidder (15) 37pts
It’s a bit of a haul to get out to Greenwood, but most would agree it is worth the extra 15 minutes for this experience. There are 27 holes here and today our mission was to tackle the A and B tracks.
Today is was the return of Lou Ventimiglia with a terrific round of 42 points for the well-earned win over a slew of regulars.
Friday, Jan. 27, Khao Kheow (yellow tees) – Stableford
1st Peter Thomas (20) net 70
2nd Alan Rothwell (7) net 71
Due to an unforeseen clerical error (I screwed up), there are only 2 on the results list, so sorry about that to the other guys.
Our winner this month was a guy that has played with us on a very regular basis for a couple of years now. He has had many victories in the past, but surprisingly has never won our monthly medal.
With great pleasure, we are most happy to award our first monthly medal win of 2017 to Peter Thomas, and a very large Antigua TGC shirt. With a second and a third earlier this week (with a full sheet of golfers), his win makes for a great return to his winning ways once more. Nice going Pete, your shirt is at the embroidery shop now!
