PSC golf from The Golf Club

Monday, July 22, Green Valley (white tees) – Stableford

1st Phil Smedley (10) 35pts

2nd Chicka Smith (16) 33pts

3rd Henry O’Brien (18) 32pts

Just when you thought it was safe to get back out on the golf course, the Great White shark Phil Smedley sneaks up and grabs another victory off the visitors to TGC.  Quiet and unassuming, Phil has gone about his business with little fanfare and just gets on with the job at hand.  At the end of the day though, the score says it all and the Great White ends up on the top of the heap with 2 wins and a third for the week and a 35 here today!  Well done Mr. Golf Captain Sir!

Now you might ask, why is that nice guy Phil beating up on that Silver Surfer Chicka Smith?  Definitely not quiet and unassuming, the little devil is not Tasmanian but from Oz and can still whip up a frenzy on the course as shown by today’s 33.

Tough as nails, Chicka is a regular visitor to our shores when his Mum lets him out and it’s always good to see him over here flying the flag for our Aussie mates.  Chicka just celebrated yet another birthday, which is far more favourable than the alternative.  Let’s not bother about any candle counting, shall we?

To round off the podium, that legendary Scotsman Henry O’Brien struggled a bit today but still managed to hobble off with a 32 to sneak in the back door for third place.

Another fine day at Green Valley, one of the best golf courses in town, and another fine comp organized by Phil Smedley.

Tuesday, July 23, Laem Chabang (white tees) – Stableford

1st Phil Smedley (10) 35pts

T2nd Dion Lane (12) 34pts

T2nd Tom McCarthy (21) 34pts

T4th Graham Dants (8) 33pts

T4th Harold Hart (20) 33pts

Time for the Tuesday time trip back to the Jack track.  One of the best golf courses in Thailand, Laem Chabang has also won countless awards as one of the best courses in Asia.  Usually overshadowed by the Siam Twins, we sometimes forget just how good this course really is.

Terry Wagner back at the Club.Terry Wagner back at the Club.

Now is the time to play here, the Sports Day rate of 1,900 all in is a bargain for a course of this quality, and that includes caddy and cart.  There’s only a few more weeks at this price so get yer skates on!

It was a very tight competition, and not one golfer managed to shoot their handicap!  Starting on the low end of the scale, there was a tie for 4th that Hank and Graham shared with 33 points.  That’s not such a bad score when you play the A & C 9’s of this course and reflects just what a great test of golf this course is.

Tom and Dion split the silver for joint second with 34 Stableford points but it was Captain Phil once again who took the top spot.  The ‘Deadly’ Smedley just edged them out by a point to claim victory and continue his winning ways for the week.

Thursday, July 25, Greenwood (white tees) – Stableford

1st Terry Wagner (18) 38pts

2nd Mike Newbert (18) 36pts

3rd Phil Smedley (10) 35pts

3rd John Hutt (26) 35pts

Today we had Greenwood A & C on the schedule, and with a rate of 650 baht, it must be the best value in town.  As it turned out, the comp was a battle between youth and experience and on this occasion, it was one for the old guys!

Terry Wagner, the Honolulu Kid, ended up with a terrific 38 points for the winning score for the day.  Good for you buddy!  Next best on the totem pole was a name that has been off the radar for a few weeks now.  He had a spectacular run for quite a while, and today showed a return to form for Mike Newbert, the Montauk Mauler.

What’s that Phil, only a third today?  Still, you have had a great week and congrats to our fearless Aussie Golf Captain who finishes on the podium once again to share third place with Englishman John Hutt.  It is nice to see Gentleman John qualify for some of those handsome man vouchers finally!

Thanks to all who joined in for another week of great golf in Pattaya.
