PSC Golf Bunker Boys at The Ranch

Monday, May 11, Mt. Shadow (Blue Tees) – Stableford

Not only have Tony, Colin, and Mashi all had recent surgery to correct their vision, but they all also use rangefinders out on the course.  First, Colin took Golfer of the Month title in April, and today at the beautiful Mountain Shadow Tony and Mashi both bettered their handicaps.  Hmmm!

For the first time in what seems like an eternity we were able to play a round without thunder rumbling all around us.  With an average score of just 28 stableford points it was not however such a good performance from the 21 golfers that made the trip to one of the nicest tracks in the area.

Tony Robbins.Tony Robbins.

Jimmy Carr was able to hold on to his slim lead in the race for Golfer of the Month by posting 37 points to take third place in A-flight but he was beaten on count back by “Bionic Eye” Mashi.

A-Flight

1st Tony Robbins (18) 39pts

2nd Mashi Kaneta (15) 37pts

3rd Jimmy Carr (19) 37pts

B-Flight

1st Tore Eliassen (19) 35pts

2nd Tom McDowell (21) 34pts

3rd P.J. Redmond (23s) 31pts

Near Pins: P.J. Redmond, Colin Jones, Jimmy Carr.

Wednesday, May 13, Bangpakong – Stableford

A rainy day, a wet course, thunder all around, and 19 stalwart Bunker Boys braving the conditions.  We weren’t sure if we’d be able to get our round in as it was coming down in buckets the last few miles on the long drive up north.  Fortunately, the golf gods were with us and we only wound up with some really muddy shoes.

Two words you only want to whisper on the golf course — shank and yips.  You sure don’t want to be using yips around Ian as he seems to have a real bad case of them.  The last few rounds he’s been having a hard time dropping two foot putts.  It’s so bad he’d make Gordon look like Jordan Spieth.

A-Flight

1st Geoff Parker (12) 37pts

2nd Takeshi Hakozaki (14) 36pts

3rd Stuart Tinkler (17) 35pts

B-Flight

1st Colin Jones (25) 36pts

2nd Ken Davidson (22) 30pts

3rd Les Humphrey (24) 27pts

Near Pins: Takeshi Hakozaki (2), Stuart Tinkler, Steve Durey.

Friday, May 15, Eastern Star — Stableford

On a relatively cool day (read not blistering hot) our gracious host — Sir Buff — at The Ranch Bar made a celebrity appearance to post a not so pleasing 27 stableford points.  As the saying goes, “drive for show and putt for dough”.  In Buff’s case, he’s flat-stick broke.

This track, especially when the greenkeeper seems to go missing, certainly has its naysayers among the Bunker Boys.  Your scribe, on the other hand, has always had a soft spot in his heart for this venue as he once had a hard/demanding discussion with one of the caddies.  Yes, there was a resolution to the discussion and everything came out alright.

Geoff Cox was the man of the day, being the only player to better his handicap and took first place with a very nice 39 points.  He led the field by six strokes with Geoff Parker coming in second, the latter moving ahead in the race for Golfer of the Month award.

1st Geoff Cox (15) 39pts

2nd Geoff Parker (12) 33pts

3rd Stuart Tinkler (17) 30pts

Near Pins: Geoff Williams, Stuart Tinkler, Mike Corner.

Note:  The Bunker Boys are a PSC affiliated golf society, who now play out of The Ranch bar on Pattaya 3rd Road (in front of the fire station, and almost opposite the Buffalo Bar).  We play on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, so if you enjoy a fun day out, and a friendly but competitive golf competition why not come and join us.

We meet at The Ranch at 9 a.m. for breakfast and transportation, and new players are always welcome.  Contact “Buff” on 086 046 5091 or 080 605 5663 for all enquiries or check website: www.bunkersociety.com.
