PSC Golf from Colin’s Bar

Sunday, April 10, Silky Oak – Stableford

1st Brian Wilkinson (20) 34pts

2nd Christen Boysen (10) 31pts

3rd Tip Briney (26) 30pts

Just 3 groups today at Silky Oak where the weather was hot & dry as usual and the water hazards are getting drier if not smaller.

In the first group out was Peter Hallgrimsson from Iceland, Tip Briney from California and the Donkey from the paddock, and they played like that they were all over the place.  The Donkey hit a good shot up the left hand side of the fairway on the 1st, but the ball was nowhere to be seen only an uncovered drain that was full of mud, so it was back to the tee, and with Christen looking on in glee the next went straight in the water.  After that he started to play well to finish the front with 19 points with a 2ft miss on No.9, but then went into free fall with 10pts on the back.

Tip had a good back nine (17pts) for a total of 30 and Peter, with 2 blobs on the front and back came in with just 23 points.

The next group consisted of 2 newcomers from Australia, Tom Hislop & Ken Box, and Wireless Wilko (Brian Wilkinson) who played off the silver tees.  Brian was the star of the show with 34 points including 19 on the last 8 holes.  The only other highlight was Tom’s 2 on the 6th while Ken tried to raise the water level in the hazards.

The final group did not do much better, with Christen top scoring on 31 points followed by Mogens with 30.

Tuesday, April 12, Khao Kheow – Stableford

1st Paul Smith (1) 37pts

2nd Barry Oat’s (22) 37pts

3rd Nim Jareeyaporn (28) 35pts

We had a similar group size today due to most people leaving town for the water festival.  We played the C & A courses, with B course closed for maintenance and water saving, and the lake on the side of the 1st on C course was almost empty, with the birds walking out to the middle to get their food.

The first group out was Peter Hynard and the returning Rune Askdal plus the Donkey.  No one was in front so a fast round was on the cards, but not as fast as the greens as we soon found out.  The course itself was in great condition considering the water shortage.

The opening trio had some problems on the front with 2 blobs each but it got a bit better on the back and Rune showed his class with 21 points on the inward half to finish with 33 overall.

In the next group of Tip Briney, Peter Hallgrimsson and Barry Oats the only shining light was Barry’s 37 points off the silver tees and a birdie 2.

Paul Smith, playing in the final group with Phil Davies, Brian Anderson & Nim Jareeyaporn, had a very good round off his 1 handicap with 37 points in total and a share of the 2’s pot after a birdie on C8.  Paul won the count back over Barry for top spot.  Nim came in third overall with her 35 points.

Friday, April 15, Pattavia – Stableford

1st Colin Davis (19) 34pts

2nd Nigel Harrison (30) 34pts

3rd Rune Askdal (17) 33pts

Just 3 groups today of golfers out with us today, still in town and trying to stay dry.  Pattavia was the venue and at 1,350 baht green fee, caddy and cart on a holiday it was a great bargain.  The course was in good condition with some of the pins in impossible positions as always.

The good news is that the roadworks are now nearly finished and the 331 is now open both ways and with no traffic in Bowin it was a record time to get there.  The course was quiet and our first group went round in 3 hrs 20 mins and the other groups not far behind.

The first nine belonged to Rune Askdal with a very good 17 points, followed closely by Tip Briney with 16 and the Donkey way back with 12.  But with the Donkey being denied his mid game ice cream he went for the jugular, parring 5 of the first 6 holes on the back nine for 22 points and just piping his playing partner Rune.

In the other groups Nigel Harrisonalso had a tough time on the front but made up for it on the back with 11 pts on the last 3 holes for 20 points on the back and a total 34, only to lose the count back for the overall win to the Donkey.
