PSC Golf from The Growling Swan

Monday, May 23, Khao Kheow – Stableford

Another fine day greeted the 23 eager golfers taking the journey out to Khao Kheow, one of our favourite courses! Once again it was to be found in excellent condition with grass on the fairways and the greens playing true. The management and staff are to be complimented for the great condition that this course is currently in. We played B and C nines off the yellow markers.

Not much to be said about the golf other than the performance of Sal Brizzi. Returning to Pattaya just over a month ago today’s outing saw Sal make it from 4 wins from 4, a great effort. Coming in second was his buddy Bill Steinmann, with Ashley Taylor filling the third spot on the podium.
B Flight saw Gerri Crilly, with batteries recharged, making his presence felt with 36 points for the win. Coming in second was resident scorer John Anderson while Colin Stielow took third.

Thursday, May 26, Bangpra – Monthly Mug/Stroke

It was a good size field of 23 golfers that travelled to a very dry Bangpra Golf Course where conditions were hot… so no surprise there!

Playing off the front tees it was hard to find a good lie, if you were fortunate to find a fairway, and the greens as always at Bangpra were a real challenge – many three-putts or more were the talk of the bar later in the afternoon.

The field was split into A & B Grade and only two players, Mashi Kaneta and Steve Younger played to or bettered their handicap.

All eyes were on Sal Brizzi, who was shooting for his 5th straight win however he could only manage a respectable 4th placing with a net 78. In the end it was Mashi Kaneta who won the Mug with a net 70 off his 15 handicap. Amazingly he had only 9 strokes for the four Par 3 holes on the course, which consisted of 3 birdies (two chip ins) and a par ! That was enough to hold Steve Younger at bay by two shots in Division A

B Division was taken by Jayson Schembri with a net 75 off his 20 handicap, mainly due to a birdie on 18 which proved just enough to edge ahead of Bill Watkins by the one shot.
The minor places went to Ebrahim, Steve Younger & Andrew Allen in that order, all shooting an excellent score of 39 points and having to be separated by a count back.

Division A
1st Mashi Kaneta (15) net 70
2nd Steve Younger (13) net 72
3rd Ian Parry (11) net 75
4th Sal Brizzi (5) net 83
Division B
1st Jayson Schembri (20) net 75
2nd Bill Watkins (24) net 76
3rd Andrew Allen (30) net 77
4th Danny Cecchi (20) net 78
Near Pins: #2 Ian Parry, #8 Mashi Kaneta, #12 Martin Todd, #17 Steve Younger
Long Putts: #9 Steve Younger, #18 Jayson Schembri
