Khet Udomsak’s Municipal Police department held a woodball competition especially for the elderly in Sattahip on Saturday, Feb. 7.
Police Major Piroj Malakul Na Ayudhaya chaired the tournament and said that the event was staged to encourage elderly people and retirees to become more physically active and also to foster good relations in the community.
The competition consisted of 3 categories; 60 years and above (both male and female), separate male and female singles divisions, and a general division for both males and females.
Competitors line up for the seniors woodball tournament at the Nawikayothin Headquarters in Sattahip on Saturday, Feb. 7.
Similar to croquet, woodball is a sport where a mallet is used to pass a ball through gates. The game can be played on grass, sand or indoors. The sport has featured in the Asian Beach Games since 2008.
Major Piroj added that the elderly population was growing rapidly in Thailand and it was important to recognize their value to society and get them more involved in community events such as this one.
