The Travellers Rest Golf Group

It is now officially the rainy season in Thailand and this past week saw some monsoon conditions at times. After our competition on Wednesday some of us were forced to take refuge in the golf bar back in Pattaya when conditions outside made getting home impossible.  I am sure our WaGs back home understood our predicament and welcomed us all with open arms when we eventually arrived home three hours late.  Forget I ever wrote that sentence.

Even some of the golf courses are suffering at the moment.  At Greenwood on Friday the normally immaculate greens were in a terrible conditions looking bare, burnt and beyond help.  The greens staff must be having nightmares.  Whether the problem has been that the greens have been soaked by the rain and then been cooked by the sun or whether it is some acid rain descending from the upper atmosphere I don’t know, but it is going to take some very hard work to rescue them.

Monday, June 15, Bangpra – Stableford

On Monday the TRGG started off their week at Bangpra, the monkey course.  Always a good challenge the competition produced a very tight finish with just two points covering the top three.

Wily old Ted Senior used his head to finish in the lead but it took a count back before it became evident that he had just pipped Billy Allan.  Aussie chef Bob Cannon cooked up a good round to finish one point behind in third place.

1st Ted Senior (15) 36pts

2nd Billy Allan (16) 36pts

3rd Robert Cannon (20) 35pts

Wednesday, June 17, Burapha – Stableford

For the third Wednesday on the trot Burapha (A and B courses) was the destination and again it was another close finish.  Mike Sanders, the debonair American, ended up with his nose in front finishing on 39 points.  As it was a debonair party I thought I, Andy Rich, would put in an appearance and managed to take the runners up spot on 38 and the ever so debonair Neil Bramley took third spot, finishing on 37.  Has there ever been a better looking leader board I ask?

1st Mike Sanders (6) 39pts

2nd Andy Rich (18) 38pts

3rd Neil Bramley (8) 37pts

Friday, June 19, Greenwood – Stableford

On Friday we pulled into Greenwood and wondered why the car park was empty.  A few hours later after playing (A and B courses) we all knew why.  Obviously the word had gone round about the state of the greens but had inadvertently not reached us at the TRGG.

A few of the better golfers made the best of things and all finished with some respectable scores.  Neil Bramley came home in front, just getting the better of Joe Depasquale in second place.  Mike Smith was a couple of shots behind in third spot.

1st Neil Bramley (8) 37pts

2nd Joe Depasquale (11) 36pts

3rd Mike Smith (5) 34pts

Good luck to all you golfers for the coming week and if you would like to play a round of golf with the TRGG, please phone Fergus Brennan on 086 056 7019 or pop into the Ned Kelly Bar in Soi Lengkee and add your name to the weekly lists which are posted on the notice board.
