The Golf Club weekly review

Monday, April 10, Green Valley (white tees) – Stableford

It is an abbreviated write up for the results this week as Songkran takes us up to Khao Yai, so all the results from the trip will be posted next week.

We had the course all to ourselves today and with decent weather it was truly millionaire’s golf.  Even the ride out was not so bad as they are getting on with the repairs to Highway 36, so a 35 minute trip is fine.

Mark Wood and Dave Ferris had to share third place with 36 points each.  Peter LeNoury had a great round and finished with 38 on the card, but Alan Rothwell was the best of the day and his 40 points, shooting off a 7 handicap, was well earned.

Looks like Alan was getting ready for our Songkran getaway to Khao Yai.  He has won our Man of the Mountain competition twice already, so is he peaking at the right time?  Looks like his back troubles are in check, as he also took the Caddy Smile near pin for good measure.

Tuesday, April 11, Phoenix Gold (white tees) – Stableford

1st David Deira (20) 34pts

2nd Masao Ishikawa (19) 32pts

3rd Paul Fritsch (28) 30pts

Boy was it hot out there today.  A slight breeze picked up on the back nine but one thing is for sure, summer is here!  Scores were on the low side as playing from the whites at the 6,300 yard mark was a big ask from the lads in this weather.

With the vouchers, we had a good rate at 1,100 baht for the green fees.  One topic of conversation coming back in the van was how good the greens were here today, and overall the course was in very good shape.

The last par-3 is our regular near pin prize and it was Tom Cody who got the closest.

30 points were all that were needed for third spot today, and Paul Fritsch was surprised to hear Capt. Phil call his name for some handsome man tickets.  At the 32 point number, it was senior member Masao “Ishi” Ishikawa taking sole second place.

Our buddy from South Africa is back in town and Dave Deira was the winner today. Nice shootin’ mate, no fading on the back nine for you!
