PSC Golf from The Billabong Golf Bar

Monday, Oct. 26, Siam Waterside – Stableford

Waterside was the venue today, with the vouchers generously provided by the members of the Siam Old Course.  What a truly magnificent golf course this is now that it is now starting to mature and it will be a real challenge in a few years time.  The course is in great condition as you would expect from Siam and everything is done so professionally.

Our 27 players got away to an early start and were in back in the clubhouse in just over 4 hours.  With plenty of Aussies visitors with us today it was left to Rosco Langoulant to fly the local flag as he was the only Billabong regular in the prizes, and he had to play the round of his life to do it.

Globaleye trophy winner Gerry Roche (2nd right) poses with Brian, Bob and George.

Even though we played the shorter white markers, putting the course at just over 6000 yards, the scores were incredible.  Taking fourth spot was Andy Hancock with 39 points while third went to Wes Rado with a fine 40.  The runner-up spot was taken by Kevin Trimbrell with 42 points, but line honours went to Rosco with an amazing 44.  I had the pleasure of playing in his group and it was a delight to see some of the flop shots he played.

There were six ‘2’s coming from Scotty Qua, Rosco, Mark MacDonald, Andy Hancock, Scott Baumgarten and Geoff Parker.

Wednesday, Oct. 28, Green Valley – Stableford

The Globaleye trophy was played today at our usual venue Green Valley.  The course isn’t in its usual great condition at the moment, probably due to the amount of rain they have had recently.  The tee blocks are not very flash either, but we all have to play the same course.  Because of the course conditions we played ‘pick and place’ through the green and it really was needed in some places.

The ladies completion was a success with 9 girls playing today.  Anucha Pulbrook took third place with a net 73 while in second spot was Noodle Russell with a net 72.  Going one better and taking the win today was Sumalee Wild with a net 71.  There were three ‘2’s coming from Noodle, Karn and Eng.

In the men’s division the scores were somewhat different but we did have a couple of standouts as George Barrie took third place with a net 70 on a count back over Bob Finley.  Second went to Bob Newell with a net 69, a bit unlucky as he dropped 5 shots in 2 holes, and coming in first was Gerry Roche with a net 67, him taking the Globaleye trophy and booking his place in the final next March.

There were three ‘2’s in the men’s flight from Bob Philp, Gerry Roche and Sel Wegner.

Friday, Oct. 30, Plutaluang – Stableford

What a day out it was at the Navy course on Friday, with 20 teams of 4 and having a two-tee start in the Billabong’s monthly scramble.  This event just keeps getting bigger and bigger and the competition between the various teams is really fun to watch.

A big thank you must go to our friends at the Navy course for their organization skills; Jang in the office could not be more helpful and the lady in the starter’s box also makes the job a lot easier for everyone.  The course was in great condition even with the amount of rain the course has had dumped on it in the last few weeks.

Friday scramble winners: Bob, Simon, Jim and Gary.

We had a near pin donated for the lighthouse hole by the Paradise Bar in Soi Khao noi which was won by the evergreen Bob Newell from the Player’s Lounge.

With so many players the prizes went down to fourth place and that was won on a count back by the team of George Barrie, Kevin Wild, Phaeng Van Mol and Bob Van Mol, beating the Courtyard Cavaliers with both teams on 61.9.  Third place went to our friendly Yank Steve Compton and his team of fantastic golfers with a score of 60.7.

Second place in the standings was occupied by the very unlucky team of Brian Maddox, Phil Waite, Willem Lasonder and Jonathon Pratt with a score of 57.9, they being beaten by the lads from the Player’s Lounge with a score of 57.6 – now that is a close call!

November’s scramble will be held on the 20th, same time as usual.
