PSC golf from The Golf Club

Monday, March 5, Green Valley (White tees) – Stableford,.

1st Peter Booth (12) 41pts

2nd Brad Gearie (13) 38pts

3rd John Emmerson (12) 38pts

4th Brett Chan (16) 36pts

5th Henry O’Brien (20) 35pts

Loads of golf this week so let’s get right to it!  Visiting Australian Peter Booth showed the locals how it is done as he walked away with his first TGC victory on Monday.  These Aussies are a good bunch of golfers and generally seem to have had to earn their handicaps on tougher courses than we play.  Well played to Peter, and also to the familiar face of Brad Gearie who once again is right up there.

I must also mention John Emmerson’s third placing or he will never let me hear the end of it.  Brett and Henry also played well enough to sneak in with 4th and 5th places.

Tuesday, March 6, Greenwood (White tees) – Stableford

1st Gavin Wright (13) 36pts

2nd Johannes Murlen (8) 34pts

3rd Peter Hynard (12) 33pts

4th Ken Aihara (8) 31pts

This was the first day of our monthly 2-day comp with our pals at Lewiinski’s, which is now on our third month of heated competition.  Unfortunately, we had a rather small turnout for this day as our Siam members had already scheduled their tee times for their regular Tuesday outing.  We had chosen to play a Tuesday/Friday comp this month as Wednesday was a big Buddha day (Macha Bucha Day) so therefore holiday rates prevailed.

John Emmerson, Peter Booth & Tay. John Emmerson, Peter Booth & Tay.

Yet another Aussie, Gavin Wright , took top spot by shooting his handicap on the day.  Gavin is wheels up by now and winging his way home for a few weeks, so see ya soon mate!

Thursday, March 8, Khao Kheow (White tees) – Stableford,.

1st Ken Aihara (6) 38pts

2nd Haro Kato (8) 38pts

3rd Brad Gearie (13) 37pts

4th Peter Larsson (13) 37pts

We have had 12 nationalities play with us this week, but today it was our Japanese buddies who ruled the podium.  Ken Aihara is a very consistent golfer who makes few mistakes.  He is down to a 6 now and is usually in the frame on our outings.  This week, he outdid himself and claimed a first with his 38 Stableford point effort at Khao Kheow.

Countryman Haro Kato was just beaten on count back by Ken’s backside 19, whilst Brad Gearie was in there again (remember his 61 last week to nab the Monthly Medal?) with another great round.  In fact, it was a double count back with Peter Larsson bringing up the rear with another 37 pointer.  These guys are good!

Friday, March 9, Mountain Shadow – Stableford,

White tees.

1st Dave Shelton (8) 37pts

2nd Peter Hynard (12) 36pts

3rd Ken Aihara (6) 34pts

4th Warren Holland (21) 31pts

And so on to the second day of our 2-day comp with the Lewiinski’s crew.  As luck would have it, The Golf Club done good once again to claim victory for the 3rd straight month with an average Stableford score of 27.3 to Lewiinski’s 25.0.  It was closer than it sounds which is what makes this competition such great fun.

We had two first place finishes and also claimed the ‘2’s with Peter Hynard and Ken Aihara tapping in putts for their deuces.  There were 35 golfers out for this event and we all headed back for some fine food at Lewiinski’s afterward for the presentation of the crystal goblet.

As a reminder, we have a road trip scheduled for Soi Dao on the 20th-21st of March and our Songkran trip this year is 13-20 April and up in the Khao Yai region at Pak Chong for some terrific new courses, including Mountain Creek by Seve Ballesteros, so drop by for details and signups.
