Monday, Jan. 26, Pattavia – Stableford

On Monday it was an early return to Pattavia and another attempt to get the better of those devilish greens.  Only one person in a large field, requiring two divisions, managed to better his handicap so I would guess that the greens won.

In Division 1 it was Irishman Fergus Brennan who continued the Irish invasion from the week before by just getting the better of Canadian Tristan Gilbert and Englishman Paul Sharples, who needed a count back to determine who came second and third.  Tristan was the victor of that battle.

In Division 2, Michael Swan was the one man to better his handicap which got him into first place, so well done to him.  Again it needed a count back to separate second and third and Ted Senior just managed to get his nose in front of Jim Cooper.

Div.1 (0-14)

1st Fergus Brennan (13) 34pts

2nd Tristan Gilbert (11) 33pts

3rd Paul Sharples (13) 33pts

Div.2 (15+)

1st Michael Swan (19) 37pts

2nd Ted Senior (16) 34pts

3rd Jim Cooper (15) 34pts

Tuesday, Jan, 27, Greenwood – Stableford

Another large field took on Greenwood’s A & C courses on Tuesday and again two divisions were required.

In Division 1, Daryl Ottaway got his first win of the year under his belt by finishing with an impressive 38 points.  One point behind came Gary Blackbourne while Fergus Brennan showed that his first place the day before was no fluke by taking third place.

Billy Allan romped home in first place in Division 2, with Alan McLeod and Derek Thorogood fighting it out for second – Alan just getting the better of Derek on count back.

Div.1 (0-13)

1st Daryl Ottaway (7) 38pts

2nd Gary Blackbourne (9) 37pts

3rd Fergus Brennan (13) 35pts

Div.2 (14+)

1st Billy Allan (16) 35pts

2nd Alan McLeod (28) 33pts

3rd Derek Thorogood (14) 33pts

Thursday, Jan. 29, Green Valley – Stableford

On Thursday the TRGG played two courses on the same day.  The larger group took on Green Valley and the smaller group played St. Andrews.

Seamus Farrell.Seamus Farrell.

When the Irish talk about the little people they are certainly not referring to Seamus Farrell.  When he hoves into view there is a total eclipse of the sun and it was the big man himself who struck gold at Green Valley.  He was closely followed home by Roger Wilkinson who is always there or thereabouts.  Father Ted Senior was again in the money, finishing in third place.

1st Seamus Farrell (30) 36pts

2nd Roger Wilkinson (14) 35pts

3rd Ted Senior (16) 32pts

At St. Andrews it was Neil Wilkinson who continued his rich vein of form to take first place while Fergus Brennan and Mike Smith finished second and third respectively.

1st Neil Wilkinson (13) 37pts

2nd Fergus Brennan (13) 34pts

3rd Mike Smith (5) 32pts

Saturday, Jan. 31, Eastern Star – Stableford

The TRGG for the second Saturday running headed off to play Eastern Star last weekend.  In Division 1, scratch golfer Ryan Thomas did not put a foot wrong by heading the field with 37 points.  Some way behind another count back was required to separate second from third, with John Baxter just getting the better of Andy Halsey.

In Division 2 it was Mr Kawamura (no first name available) who stormed off with first place by rattling up the best score of the week on 40 points.  He was followed home by Joe Nagle, and yes, it was another Irishman Peter McGinty who finished third.

Div.1 (0-15)

Ryan Thomas (0) 37pts

John Baxter (15) 33pts

Andy Halsey (8) 33pts

Div.2 (16+)

Mr Kawamura (18) 40pts

Joe Nagle (19) 36pts

Peter McGinty (19) 33pts
