The course was in remarkably good condition despite recent rain, the only issue for players being the speed of the greens which were so much slower than we have been accustomed to here.  The course was relatively empty so the pace of play was good and the round was completed in about three hours thirty minutes.

One of the more unusual occurrences on the day was the failure of the whole team to hit a green on the par-3s, so the cash went into the delinquent’s pot.

Winner on the day with 34 points was Barry Murnin, playing his last round of this tour of duty before returning to the USA.  Second went to Les Hall with 32 points and third with a lowly 28 went to Michael Brett.

Wednesday,
October 11,
Pattavia – Stableford

We teed off in nice playing conditions and continued till the eight hole when the rain started to tumble down necessitating a break at the ninth tee.  After the rain stopped we completed the ninth and proceeded across the road to the tenth tee when the rain returned with renewed force.  The skies were filled in all round and the prospect of further play looked so remote that it was decided to abandon play.

Friday, October 13, Crystal Bay – Stableford

1st Geoff Cox (15) 38pts

2nd Les Cobban (7) 33pts

3rd Gerry Cooney (17) 33pts

The last game of the week was at the relatively easy Crystal Bay course but today most failed to post a decent score.  Normally a score of forty plus points are required to take the honours but not today.

Geoff Cox, who had been in the doldrums since returning from the UK, found his mojo today and returned a card of 38 points for top spot.  As ever, Les Cobban (the man with the hat) was somewhere in the winner’s circle and today took second place with 33, beating Gerry Cooney on count-back.

To prove his win was no fluke, Geoff Cox also bagged two near pins with one each going to Jimmy Carr and Michael Brett
