The turnout for our Monthly Medal is getting better and better, and on this day there were 36 golfers who joined us for the July stroke play competition at Green Valley.  That’s a good number for this terrible low season, compounded by bar closures for local elections and holidays on the weekends.  It’s tough to make a buck when they don’t let you open the bar!

We have seen many new faces and some old friends come back in the last week, just as the flow of the tides.  Dan Avon has played with us many times over the years, but not had much success in getting to the top of the podium.  That all changed this week with his double victory, and started with a fine 67 to win our Monthly Medal for July.  Don’t ask, he already has had his shirt made so look for Dan with his first medal star on a fresh Antigua white shirt!

Dan spoiled the chances of a certain gentleman from the Indian sub-continent by the name of Chaten Patel who vied for a 2-in-a-row medal win.  Not to be this time mate, Dan pipped you by two strokes so very nicely done anyway with that 69.

We appreciate you guys coming out to join us and sincerely thank you for your support of The Golf Club.  We are having a 2-day Eclectic at Green Valley on the 20th-21st so sign up soon as space is limited.

Wednesday, August 1,  Khao Kheow (Yellow Tees) – Stableford

1st Dan Avon (12) 37pts

2nd John Mulrooney (14) 36pts

3rd Rich McPhatter (7) 33pts

4th Mike Newbert (12) 33pts

Yes, that is the same name in first place as on Monday.  Dan Avon did it again for a rare back to back victory to claim the top spot for the week.  Even with 2 shots cut, Dan had another great round and just beat out our Irish buddy John Mulrooney by one stroke for the win.

Mulrooney is the reigning “Tour Caddy of the Year” as voted by fellow tour caddies and PGA Tour golfers and golf journalists as he bagged for Darren Clarke and their win at last year’s Open Championship.

Rich McPhatter nudged out Mike Newbert on count back for third place with a couple of 33’s on their cards to round out the winners list for this week.  We are back here at Khao Kheow on Aug. 15 so drop by and sign up.  Thanks again guys, and keep it in the fairway!
