McArdle bags back to back wins

IPGC golf from Tara Court Golf Group

Sunday, Jan 19, St. Andrews – Stableford

Today we were moved over to St. Andrews from our usual spot on Green Valley and all our friends were very happy with the move.  It is always nice to play St. Andrews, especially when you get it at Green Valley prices.  As usual it was in beautiful condition with excellent fairways and very fast greens which caught out a lot of our golfers and was reflected in the scores.

Despite a large group out no one managed to play to their handicap with the best score of the day being the 35pts posted by Michael Williams to win the B Flight, with Paddy Naughton coming second on 30 and John McGarry third with 29.

Joe McArdle.Joe McArdle.

Joe McArdle topped the A Flight with 34pts, beating Declan Kelly into second on a count back, with Barney Sheedy in third place with 31.

Alec Hoare and Ger Lodge shared the 2’s pot with one apiece.

Tuesday, Jan. 21, Subphabruek – Stableford

Today we decided to take a trip up to Subphapruek Golf Club.  It is a bit of a journey to get there, taking over an hour and a half in the mini buses but well worth it.  Everything about it is absolutely beautiful, both the clubhouse and the course and not too expensive for what you are getting.

We played of the champion tees which was probably a bit long for a lot of our golfers and kept the scores down but everyone were delighted with it.  There is also a lot of water on this course and with lightning fast greens that also meant that the scores were not great.

Joe McArdle won the A Flight with the best score of the day, 34pts, for his second win this week.  Jon Batty was second with 31 after beating Peter Murphy into third on a count back.

Gilbert Brosnan claimed the B flight with 32pts while Jim Kelly was second with 31, beating Paddy Naughton into third on a count back.

The 2’s were shared between Peter Murphy, Barney Sheedy with one each and Gilbert Brosnan with two.  This was Gilbert’s second game with us this year so a very profitable start to his holiday!

A Flight

1st Joe McArdle (13) 34pts

2nd Jon Batty (10) 31pts

3rd Peter Murphy (13) 31pts

B Flight

1st Gilbert Brosnan (21) 32pts

2nd Jim Kelly (21) 31pts

3rd Paddy Vaughn (18) 31pts

Thursday, Jan. 23, Mountain Shadow – Stableford

Back to one of our favorite courses to day, Mountain Shadow.  A very large group out today and while it was a beautiful day for golf, not too hot, there was a fair bit of wind.

As Mountain Shadow is a very difficult course today we decided to give our friends a choice between the blue and white tees instead of A and B flights.  As it happened about half of them decided to play off the blue and half off the white so it worked out very well.

As was to be expected the best score of the day came off the white tees with Jim Kelly winning it with 36pts.  Ted Morris was second with 32, Sean Hallahan third on 29 and Mary Kelly had to settle for fourth place, being beaten on a count back by Sean.

Mary had the only2 of the day making it a very profitable day indeed for the Kelly family on their second game with us this year.  Well done to both of you and a very badly needed few baht indeed!

Off the blue tees and coming near the end of his holiday for this year, Donal Lyne was the winner with 34pts and his first win this year.  Barney Sheedy, who is a regular winner, was second with 33pts, with Joe Peters making a long overdue return to the podium with 32 in third and Joe McArdle taking the final podium spot in fourth with 31.

Blue Flight

1st Donal Lyne (17) 34pts

2nd Barney Sheedy (9) 33pts

3rd Joe Peters (23) 32pts

4th Joe McArdle (13) 31pts

White Flight

1st Jim Kelly (21) 36pts

2nd Ted Morris (11) 32pts

3rd Sean Hallahan (21) 29pts

4th Mary Kelly (25) 29pts
