A good week of golf for the Soi 13 group started out at Pattavia where the management’s efforts to improve the course are bearing fruit as generally the course gets better on each visit, the exception being the bunkers that still need some serious attention to increase the quantity of sand in them.

Mark Williams.

With the numbers of golfers increasing there was also the need for two divisions once again for every event in the week.

The day’s split came at sixteen and below for the first division which Walter O’Keefe won with a solid one under return which saw him home by two from new member Scott Chisholm in second place.

Mark Williams took the first of his three podium placements in the week another shot back, with Ray Daws taking the last step also a shot behind him.

The Second division was led in by John Wood with a well-played one under handicap card and just managing to keep Hal Hart in second spot by a shot.

John Carlin placed third ahead of a count back for fourth, which Frank Hughes won with a better 19 to 17 leaving Bob Pratt to just miss out.

There were no 2s in the first division but John Carlin cleaned out the roll over pot in the second division with one on the lucky thirteenth hole.

Shane Heavey.

Once again there were two divisions, with the split at sixteen and below for the top division which was won this time by Neil Skilton on one of his rare raiding party visits to the group when he always seems to thrive.  On this occasion he needed to just play to his handicap to succeed, as Kevin Townsend rued the lost opportunity after recording a zero on the tricky eighth hole on the C course after hitting his tee shot into the water twice.

Mark Williams surprisingly slipped into third spot again with a two over return after scoring eight 1-pointers in a very mixed round.  Walter O’Keefe did enough on the back nine, after a very slow start, to win a count back for fourth over Dick Heaney with a better 17 to 13.

The second division was taken by Shane Heavey with a well-played one over handicap card that did not include any zeros-pointers.  Shuichi Kodaka at last featured in the prizes again another shot behind as he continues on his way back to form.

One of the most pleased players of the day was to be found in third place after an extremely difficult passage of play since arriving in Pattaya, so even a four over handicap return was a signal for a serious celebration for Brian Lewis who had not heard such loud applause for this feat at the prize giving since he last played lead guitar at the Congleton Gentlemen’s Annual Soiree.

John Carlin won a count back for fourth over Stephen Beard with a better 17 to 14.

There were no 2s in either division.

John Wood.

The best golf of the week was achieved by Mark Williams, who at last performed to his potential when returning a level par gross card to win the first division by a clear eight strokes with a net 64, equaling the record for the first division’s monthly event.  Mark’s even pair of 36s contained four birdies, three on par fives, and four bogeys and without a six on the card.  Stunning golf on any day and especially in a Medal round!

Mike Remington took second place ahead of a count back for third which Gus Guidetti won with a better 35 to 38.5 to leave Walter O’Keefe in fourth, with Allan Hanlon in fifth, three more adrift.

The second division Medal was claimed by Shane Heavey as he put in another solid performance at two over handicap to win by one again, this time from Hal Hart who had to settle for a qualifying result for the Gold and Silver event on this occasion.

Neil Skilton.

Terry Hodgkiss led a three-way count back for third place with a better back-nine (35), leaving Phil Stevenson, having recovered from the aerial assault by his cousin of the previous week, in fourth with 37 and Patrick Scullion poking his head above the ramparts in fifth with 40 after a very promising opening half to the day.

Once again there were no ‘2’s in the second division and even more amazingly there were none in the first division, causing a whole week of rollovers to be carried forward for the first time ever in the group in the premier division.
