Monday, July 13, Phoenix – Stableford

It is the quietest period we have ever known here at Siam Cats and there were only four groups out today with the two divisional cut set at 8-13 in the top flight and 18+ in division 2.

Terry Madsen, with 38 points, recorded the best score of the day to win division 1 ahead of Sid Crawley in second on 35 and Jerry Sweetnam took third with 33.

The Canadian beat the Welshman 21/18 on the back nine after Gordon Everingham and Curtis Hessler both came in with 36 points each in division 2, and Jim Sims placed third just one point behind.

Terry Madsen (division 1) and Curtis Hessler (division 2) were the winners of the near pin prizes today and there were no ‘2’s in either division so rollovers to Greenwood on Wednesday.

Wednesday, July 15, Greenwood – Stableford

We were allocated the A and B nines today with only one division out and Jerry Sweetnam came out on top with a winning score of 37 points.  Willy Van Heetvelde followed Jerry onto the podium in second place after beating Roar Berger on an 18/15 back-nine count back, each coming in with 35 points in total.

There were no near pins but Terry Madsen birdied B5 to scoop the ‘2’s pot in division 1 and there was another rollover in division 2.

Friday, July 17, Eastern Star – Stableford

There were heavy clouds and a few spots of rain as we left Siam Cats and in the distance towards Rayong it looked quite threatening.  When we arrived at Eastern Star there still was no change in the weather and the six groups teed off uncertain of what to expect over the next eighteen holes.  Fortunately it stayed dry and we even got some sun towards the end of the round.

We set an 8-16 cut in division 1 and 17+ in division 2 and the Irish boy Frank Kelly came in with the best score of the day, 37 points, to win division 1, with Ian Speirs in second two points behind and Jerry Sweetnam claimed third on 33, beating Chris Voller 18/16 on the back nine (nobody likes to see that).

Tony Thorne topped division 2 standings with an even par 36 points, edging out Darryl Blair 19/17 on the back nine, and the organizer came in third with 35.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Ian Speirs (2), Jerry Sweetnam and Steve Wentford, and (Div 2) Tony Thorne, Harry Vincenzi and Iain Walsh.

There were two birdies today on the signature par three 13th hole, one for Frank Kelly in division 1 and a ‘2’ for Tony Thorne in division 2.
