Travellers Rest Golf Group

Something fairly unusual happened last week, a certain player named Joe Stranks played in all four competitions organized by the TRGG at four different courses and finished in the top three of each competition without actually winning any of them.  Now that is what I would call a consistent golfer – or maybe just an unlucky one.  Well done Joe!

Monday, Dec. 16, Mt. Shadow – Stableford

On Monday at Mountain Shadow Joe was beaten into second place by Ito Akitoshi who had his best round for quite a while.  Ito didn’t hang around taking prisoners and raced away from the rest of the field, finishing well clear.  Joe’s mate Barry Wood trailed in third.

1st Ito Akitoshi (9) 39pts

2nd Joe Stranks (12) 35pts

3rd Barry Wood (11) 33pts

Tuesday, Dec. 17, Green Valley – Stableford

On Tuesday the TRGG headed back to Green Valley after a week’s absence.  This time it was Neil Wilkinson and Jim Cooper who beat Joe down to third place but it was a close run thing.  Neil finished just one point ahead of the other two.

Thursday, Dec. 19, Bangpakong – Stableford

We headed off to most people’s favourite course, Bangpakong, on Thursday and I can report it is back to its best.  The wind got up a little on the day and it played long and induced a few more errors than normal.

Joe Stranks must have thought he had done enough to finish top of the heap for a change by amassing 41 points, only to discover he had been beaten on count back by Nigel Ward.  Enough to make you spit is it not Joe?

1st Nigel Ward (17) 41pts

2nd Joe Stranks (12) 41pts

3rd Bill Shepley (6) 38pts

Saturday, Dec. 21, Crystal Bay – Stableford

It was back to Crystal Bay (B and C course) on Saturday and Barry Wood, Joe’s supposed mate, decided it was his turn to put a stop to Joe finishing in top spot, and to make matters worse Guy Fraser knocked Joe out of the runners-up place on count back.  What an unfair world it must seem.
