PSC Golf from The Outback Golf Bar

Monday, June 15, Burapha – Stableford

Golfing generally here remains relatively quiet, as it has been throughout the high season period; indeed, one might ask – where have all the golfers gone? – Burapha had only twenty bookings today, of which seventeen were from the Outback.

For those who are here however it remains a great place to golf, with plenty of tee times available and at very good rates as the courses try hard to woo that extra customer or two.

Mike Missler.Mike Missler.

We played A and B today which, as shown by the scores, were in great condition.  Neil Hughes was the winner with an excellent 40 points, from Maurice Copan (39) in second and John O’Keefe (38) third.  Kim Danboise took fourth on c/b from Peter Nixon, both with 35s.

Maurice Copan and Rob Barnes both had ‘2’s.

1st Neil Hughes (16) 40pts

2nd Maurice Copan (16) 39pts

3rd John O’Keefe (17) 38pts

Tuesday, June 16, Laem Chabang – Stableford

Laem Chabang finally listened to our pleas not to start on the very difficult C course and they granted us the privilege to start on the A course instead.  They promised to keep it that way and it is a welcome relief as the 4 opening holes on the C course at Laem Chabang are together probably the toughest of any opening holes in Pattaya.

A special welcome to a couple of Ron Dickie friends visiting from Singapore, Ben & Allen, who using Outback rental clubs, battled their way round the tricky A and C courses but they enjoyed it tremendously, preferring to keep the scorecards to themselves and we hope to see them back again soon.

Mr. Steady, aka Mike Missler enjoyed the shorter white tees, which we elected to play, and myself, Robert Barnes and Mike played a form of three-ball sixes where every hole counts 6 points and the winner gets 4 points, second gets 2 points and the third gets nothing.  If the net scores are tied, the 6 points is split up either as 4/1/1 or 3/3/0 or 2/2/2.  It’s a great fun format for 3 players but as it is, Mike thoroughly lynched both Barnsey and me on the front, back, and overall!

Mike of course also won the day, so congratulation to him, whilst Ron Dickie, who didn’t have the best of days, managed to nonetheless scrape into second place with 30 points.

1st Mike Missler (06) 35pts

2nd Ron Dickie (04) 30 pts

3rd Andre Coetzee (04) 29pts

Wednesday. June 17, The Emerald – Stableford

A disappointing turnout at Emerald today, not helped by the un-publicised late change of venue due to the second of the State of Origin NRL games.  We had originally booked to play at Thai Country Club, which has been postponed to the 24th June, realising that we would not have been back in time for the 5pm kick-off.

So what do you do when you are landed with 5 players, play a skins game, possibly an under-rated format that should be played more often here in Pattaya.  We’ll ask around and get some feed-back about that, in the meantime Sugar won the day and probably the skins as well – although that has not been confirmed.

1st Sugar Ray Handford (19) 35pts

2nd Tim Knight (26) 30pts

3rd Stephen Mann (10) 29pts

Friday, June 19, St. Andrews – Stableford

Unfortunately no on course report was received from St Andrews this week, yet another switch from our usual Green Valley venue.  The good thing was that the price was right.

JP Maffray followed up his previous Friday win at Green Valley with another one here, recording 38 points to win by four from Bob Finley (34); Bob beat Barry Copestake on count back, one clear of Bob Lindborg & Andre Coetzee, both with 33.

Guess who had the only ‘2’, JP of course, on the third.

1st Jean P Maffray (10) 38pts

2nd Bob Finley (12) 34pts

3rd Barry Copestake (15) 34pts
