Sunday, March 17, Green Valley – Stableford

As today was a special occasion for the Irish diaspora we had a change from our usual singles competition at Green Valley and played for the St Patrick’s Day Cup. The format was a four-ball better-ball which is something we never play on our usual days but is a nice change.

The winners, Pat Culloty and Ken Hole, had an excellent forty-seven points for a clear two point win over second placed Kevyn Wright and Jerry Sweetnam with forty-five. We then had three pairs with forty-three points and here on the countback Joe McArdle and Joe Peters came third, Shaun Merriman and Nick Caulfield were fourth and Paul Pavloff and David Wright had to settle for fifth.

We had two 2s today, from Shaun Merriman and Kevyn Wright.

Tuesday, March 19,
Mt; Shadow – Stableford

A smaller field today and only one division needed. With a nice breeze blowing we were away early and the course was very quiet. It is starting to dry out with some bare patches on some fairways and the greens are slower than normal and very inconsistent.

Only player today beat his handicap and claimed 1st place, that being Nick Caulfield (H/cap 7) with 37 points. Second was decided on a countback with Rocky Hudson (18) beating playing partner Brian Agus (20) after both finished on 35 points. Fourth place also went to a countback with Ken Hobbs (30) edging Shaun Merriman (10) on 32 points each.

Ted Morris & Rocky Hudson shared the 2’s pool today.

Thursday, March 21,
Bangpra – Stableford

Bangpra was in excellent condition but the course was the winner today as none of our group came even near to playing to their handicaps. The best score we got wasfrom Jerry Sweetnam (10) who won with thirty two points and even that low score was two better than the second place Ted Murphy (25) with thirty points. We then had three players with twenty nine and here both Shaun Merriman and Rocky Hudson lost out on the countback to Nick Caulfield (7).

Despite the small group and the difficult par threes here we still had two 2s today, coming from Shaun Merriman and Kevyn Wright.
