Sunday, June 26, Green Valley – Stableford

1st Peter Henshaw (25) 34pts

2nd Ed Wyckoff (11) 33pts

3rd Per-olov Lindmark (26) 31pts

Mickey ‘nine holes’ Beresford’s hopes of winning three straight Sunday outings at Green Valley took a tumble as the wheels came off big time. To be fair the course was in excellent condition although the fairways were very wet from the overnight storms, with the greens like glass which made for very tricky golf.

Mickey managed a total of just five points on the outer nine and did slightly better on the inward nine with 12 points. On a lighter note one must remember that all the seventeen points were put together on just ten holes – that’s right eight wipes.

The man who handled the conditions best was Ireland’s Peter ‘the silver surfer’ Henshaw who took the days honours with 34 points. Peter was one stroke clear of Ed “our man in the Whitehouse” Wyckoff. The subdued Per-olov Lindmark closed the flight with 31 points.

Monday, June 27, Crystal Bay B+C – Stableford

1st Takeshi Hakozaki (16) 39pts

2nd Peter Walker (19) 38pts

3rd Mark Bamber (8) 36pts

4th Daryl Evans (22) 35pts

Crystal Bay as always nowadays is in first class condition compared to some of the courses in the area, including the much vaunted Laem Chabang which cost four times more to play on a normal day and is definitely not in better condition.

The day’s man of the match was Takeshi Hakozaki San who shot a splendid 39 points. Takeshi was one shot clear of Peter Walker. Mark Bamber filled the third spot on the podium with a solid even par round.

Because of the increase in golfers, a fourth podium spot was on offer. This was filled by Daryl Evans with 35 points.

Wednesday, June 29, Greenwood A+B – Stableford

1st Peter Henshaw (25) 33pts

2nd Kevin Rogers (10) 31pts

3rd Jim Elphick (26) 27pts

Was it the length of the ride out? Was it the glass like Wolveridge and Thomson designed greens? Was it the extra club wind? Were they just lousy golfers with unfounded visions of grandeur? Whatever it was it was ugly with no golfer matching par.

The only shining light was Peter ‘the silver surfer’ Henshaw who posted 33 match wining points for his second win of the week. Aussie star Kevin Rogers took the second spot two shots adrift. Jimmy ‘two shots’ Elphick was happy to see any part of the podium with his 27 pts.

Friday, July 1, Pattana A+B – Stableford

1st Tom Gorey (17) 36pts

2nd Peter Henshaw (25) 35pts

3rd Mark Bamber (8) 34pts

On a beautiful day with a stiff breeze and a course in tip top shape, and the A+B layouts at the always challenging Pattana, it was no surprise that no one bettered their handicap. The Irish lads dominated the day’s play with Co Kilkenny man Tom ‘the Irish Rover’ Gorey returning the best score of the day with a solid even par round. Tom was followed up the podium steps by his good friend and the man in form, Peter ‘the silver surfer’ Henshaw, who was one stroke adrift. This podium visit made it three times this week.

Three players vied for the remaining third place podium spot: Mark Bamber, Christy ‘Good’ Knight and Jimmy ‘Two Shots’ Elphick. The scales of justice tipped in Mark’s favour, leaving Christy and Jim at sea level and pot less.
