Jomtien Golf with the IPGC

Monday, Nov. 21, Treasure Hill – Stableford

A brilliant package here today for us and we had seven groups out with the cut set at 12-18 and 19+ in the two divisions.

Nik Evans took a near pin at Eastern Star.

Still playing off 12, South Africa’s Jerry Sweetnam returned the best score of the day, winning division 1 with 34 points.  Paul Butler came in second two points behind Jerry and Dave Howden took third with 31 points.

It was a tough test of golf out here today with some slick greens and tough pin placements and this was reflected in the division 2 scores, with Gil Phillips beating Ray Hucknall 17/15 on the back nine for top spot after they both came in with 29 points each.  Theo Bahrt was third, beating Paul Young 16/13 after they both came in with 28.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Bob Comartin, Per Forsberg and Jerry Sweetnam, and (Div 2) Gil Phillips and David Taylor.

Terry Madsen and Jerry Sweetnam both birdied the 6th today to share the first division ‘2’s pot while there was a rollover in second flight.

Friday, Nov. 25,
Eastern Star – Stableford

After Wednesday’s outing was washed out due to heavy rain, eight groups set on Friday for Eastern Star with the equal cut in the 2 divisions set at 8-17 and 18+.

Playing off 16, Paul Hartley won division 1 with 39 points, which included an eagle on the par-5 11th for 5 points.  Jerry Sweetnam came in second on 38 and in third place was Bill Bertram with 32.

Darryl Blair beat Gerry Cooke 17/16 on the back nine to take the honours in division 2 after they both came in with 32 points overall.  In third place was Tony Thorne with 31.

Near pins were claimed by (Div 1) Nik Evans (2) and Dave Horne, and (Div 2) Frank Kelly and Tony Thorne.

There were over 30 players out today but not one person hit the green on the 6th hole, and with such levels of inaccuracy no surprise that there were no ‘2’s in either division.
