Monday, Dec. 28, Greenwood – Stableford

It was another relatively quiet week with a few players still away and others taking a few breaks around Thailand.

We were playing the A and B nines at Greenwood on Monday with the cut set at 5-16 and 18+.  Steve Harris returned the best score of the day, winning division 2 with 36 points while Jeff Greer took second after beating Alan Duckett 19/18 on the back nine, both coming in with 33 points in total.

Alan Bissell was the winner in division 1, beating Chris Voller on a count back after they were tied on 33 points each and one point back in third place was Terry Madsen, edging out Jouni Pesonen on yet another count back.

Alan Bissell & Harry Vincenzi.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Manuela Gradl (2), and (Div 2) William Chang, Steve Harris and Derek Yates.

There were no ‘2’s today in either division so a rollover to Emerald in division 1 and a double in division 2.

Wednesday, Dec. 30, The Emerald – Stableford

A lovely breeze was coming off the coast as seven groups assembled on the first tee at Emerald on Wednesday, making a pleasant change from recent games.  It was busy here today and the condition of the course had improved since our last visit here.

We had an almost identical cut as Monday with Harry Vincenzi taking division 1 with 34 points, beating Walter Weber 12/9 on the back six after they both come in with 15 points on the back nine.  In third place was Chris Voller on 32.

Curtis Hessler, playing off 18, scored 20 points on the front nine and 14 on the back to win division 2 ahead of William Chang, who beat Bob Poole on count back after they both came in with 32 points each.

Near pins were claimed by (Div 1) Thomass Femminella, Manuela Gradl and Dave Howden, and (Div 2) Jim Connelly, Alan Duckett, Bob Poole and Walter Weber.

Dave Howden birdied the 5th to win the ‘2’s pot in division 1 pot and Alan Duckett the 13th to take the double pot in division 2.

Friday, Jan. 1, Eastern Star – Stableford

It being New Year’s Day we were surprised at the number of groups booked in here today but we still teed off bang on time at 9.15.

Another seven groups out and there were two 39’s returned in division 1, with Chris Voller beating Bill Bertram 22/19 on the back nine and Frank Kelly taking third only eight points behind (he might have been embarrassed standing on the podium with that score).

Three 32’s came in division 2 and with an 18/17/12 back-nine count back, Max Wilson beat Steve Harris and Glyn Evans for top spot.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Bill Bertram, Manuela Gradl, Michael Healey and Frank Kelly, and (Div 2) Curtis Hessler and Joe Kubon.

Standing on the 14th tee the first group watched the second group tee off on the par three 13th signature hole and there were three balls on the green within six feet of the pin and one around ten foot, but not one ‘2’ came from this group.  Bill Bertram birdied the third for the only one of the day.
