PSC Golf from The Growling Swan

Monday, August 1, The Emerald – Stableford

Twenty golfers (both male and female) set out to take on Emerald Golf Course, and with a cost of Bt. 1150 all-inclusive I am surprised that we did not get a larger crew.  On all reports the course was in tip top condition and we played from the front tees with the greens playing true.

Farewells to Lindsay Slender, who is taking his family back to the U.K., and on a sad note Gary Monley is heading back to Australia as his health has gone downhill over the past couple of weeks.  We all wish you well Gary and would love to see you again soon!

Mike Johns and Rona Carungay were the joint top scorers of the day to take out their respective flights on 37 points each. Ebrahim and Mark Stapleton had a battle for second place in the top division with the former just edging out Mark on count back.

Thursday, August 4, Greenwood – Stableford

We had 28 eager golfers waiting to take the long and sometimes boring journey to the popular Greenwood GC.  One can hardly wait for the roads to be fixed as it will take approx. 20 min from the trip.  Then we will be queuing up to play and God only knows what the fees will be like then.

We arrived early to our tee time, Bernie McCart made comment as to how good the weather was but no sooner had the words left his lips when the heavens opened.  Yes, if you have a property suffering from drought call Bernie in, he can make it rain.  Fortunately, playing in the second group we only had the rain for 2 holes.

We played A & B nines and the greens were unbelievably fast on the front 9 and somewhat slow on the back side.  This is a very good course and at Bt. 1350.00 all inclusive, it’s hard not to play their every month.

We played 2 divisions and A Grade went down to the wire with Alex Field taking top honors from Steve Younger via the count back system. (I do believe that this is the 3rd occasion that Steve has lost top spot with the old count back).  Third and fourth spots were filled by Peter MacDonald and Mike Gosden.

B Grade was taken out by our resident pop star Sandy Leiper (Cindy Lauper) ahead of Lorraine Percy in second and third spot being decided once again by a count back, Tony Cook taking the honors from John Anderson.
