Monday, August 7, Pattana – Stableford

1st Freddy Starbeck (14) 42pts

2nd Richard Talbot (17) 38pts

3rd Darren Stanton (16) 37pts

Don Hawkins.
Don Hawkins.

On Monday the TRGG visited the magnificent golf course at Pattana.  Playing course B first gave every golfer the opportunity to be awoken with water left, water right and water straight ahead.  The splendid condition of the course meant that there were great opportunities to record high scores.

Few hit the ball further than Darren Stanton, and on this day his direction was fairly straight as he recorded 37 points to take third place.  The scribe, having one of his better days, went one point more to take second place.  However, there was no doubt about the day’s winner as Freddy Starbeck ripped up the course on the front 9.  The “victorious Viking” kept the momentum going on the back to record 42 points and take the top spot.

Tuesday, August 8, Phoenix – Stableford

1st Darren Stanton (16) 39pts

2nd Tony Bless (16) 34pts

3rd John O’Donoghue (20) 34pts

Tuesday’s visit to Phoenix saw 14 players score between 31 and 34 points but only one getting over 36.

In fact 5 players scored 34 points which meant various abacuses were in operation to separate the desperate competitors.  Luckily the positions were decided as a result of Billy Allan simply counting on his fingers.

When the dust had settled John O’Donoghue was placed in third spot, with Tony Bless taking the second.  However, for the second day in succession there was a runaway winner and it was now Darren Stanton’s turn to put a great round together and his final score of 39 points comfortably took away the day’s booty.

Wednesday, August 9, Mt. Shadow – Stableford

1st Michael Patterson (16) 34pts

2nd Don Hawkins (17) 33pts

3rd David Booth (16) 32pts

The TRGG visited Mountain Shadow on Wednesday on a scorching hot day.  Players rarely score better on the back 9 than they do on the front at Mountain Shadow but this was not the case today with David Booth.  David’s split of 11 and 21 meant that his final score of 32 points was good enough for third spot.

Don Hawkins also scored well and his 33 points rewarded him with second position.  The best round of the day came from Michael Patterson with his 34 points being enough for him to finish top of the ladder.

Thursday, August 10, Silky Oak – Stableford

1st Don Hawkins (17) 39pts

2nd Peter Seil (10) 39pts

3rd Christer Dolk (14) 39pts

Silky Oak welcomed the TRGG on Thursday and it was clearly bearing gifts.  It was reminiscent of a shootout at the OK Corral with 13 of the 14 players scoring 31 points or more.

The top 3 were once again separated on count-back with all three scoring 39 points.  Christer Dolk could feel slightly aggrieved to only finish third with his score and was just beaten into second by Peter Seil who carded the lowest raw score of the day.

The man to finish on top of the pile was Don Hawkins and this was proving to be a very fruitful week for Don.

Friday, August 11, Burapha – Stableford

1st Don Hawkins (17) 42pts

2nd David Booth (16) 39pts

3rd Isao Ichikawa (19) 38pts

Friday’s visit to Burupha saw the group once again returning to the A and B courses after a couple of weeks on the more challenging C and D.

Isao Ichikawa scored well to return with 38 points but this was only good enough for third spot.  David Booth continued with his fine form to score 39 and take second but the man of the moment, Don Hawkins, was at it again with 42 points.  He was getting this rather unfortunate habit of one-putting every green and almost showed adolescent type excitement as he held his fifth 20-foot putt of the day.

Saturday, August 12, Greenwood – Stableford

1st Don Hawkins (15) 39pts

2nd Isao Ichikawa (19) 34pts

The final golf round of the week saw the golf group visiting Greenwood.  A reduced field meant only 2 places were up for grabs and Isao Ichikawa once again played well to score 34 and take second.  Completing the hat-trick was “the Don” Hawkins who rattled up another 39 points to take the top prize and complete a great win for this rather pleasant chap who is becoming more unpopular by the round.
