Neil Carter – golfer of the month.

Following a weekend of heavy rain, we were pleasantly surprised the find the Pattaya Country Club course in very good order.  A field of fourteen players fronted up for the first game of the week and they were rewarded with pleasant playing conditions and good speed of play.

Today we played off the blue tees and the general consensus of opinion was that the course played long.  We saw the return to our ranks of Dave Ashman and Geoff Cox and were pleased to be joined in our round by Olivier Daniel from Serenity Hotel and Spa in Kabinburi.

Round of the day went to Barry Murnin who returned a score of thirty-five points, three ahead of Neil Carter in second.  Third went to Geoff Parker a further two points back.

Only two near pins were won, both by Jimmy Carr so Jimmy collected the lot.

Wednesday, Sept. 27, Pleasant Valley (blue tees) – Stableford

1st Geoff Parker (15) 38pts

2nd Jimmy Carr (16) 36pts

3rd Mike Brett (15) 36pts

A smaller than expected turnout for our round at Pleasant Valley, a course that divides opinion, some find no fault with it while others who are short off the tee avoid it like the plague.  Today the course was in excellent condition good except for the bunkers which were in need of some attention.

Overall the standard of scoring was good with a couple of players with twenty-one points on the front-nine threatening to set the course alight only to falter on the back-nine.  Winner on the day was Geoff Parker with thirty-eight points, an excellent score on what can be a difficult course.  Second place went to Jimmy Carr with thirty-six, beating Mike Brett into third place on count-back.

Near pins went to Colin Lane and Barry Murnin with one each while two went to Mike Brett.

Friday, Sept. 29,
St. Andrews (white tees) – Stableford

1st Colin Lane (10) 34pts

2nd Barry Murnin (18) 33pts

3rd Neil Carter (12) 32pts

A small turnout for one of the more expensive courses on our September roster.  The course was as usual in magnificent condition, the weather fine if a bit hot and only a slight breeze so conditions were ideal.

Scoring was difficult and was reflected in the numbers returned.  Colin Lane took first place with thirty-four points off his ten-handicap.  Barry Murnin was second a stroke back and Neil Carter took third with thirty-two.

In contrast to last month when golfer of the month went down to the wire with a few players vying for the title, this month had a clear-cut winner in Neil Carter with daylight to second place.
