PSC golf from The Golf Club

Monday, July 14, Green Valley (white tees) – Stableford

1st Claus Birk-Thompson (14) 41pts

2nd Mark Wood (8) 39pts

3rd John Hutt (28) 38pts

First off, let’s welcome back our long lost TGC partner Adam Schoenfeld to the fold.  Adam had a hiatus from golf and is now back with a vengeance.  He played on Friday and after a shakey front nine he rebounded back with a respectable 13 points on the back.  As a golfer, he’s a great poker player.

Beanz Meanz Heinz and Mondayz meanz Green Valley for us, so Route 36 took us 30 minutes up the road to our weekly venue.  We had a good low season turnout of 20 golfers and enjoyed some lovely weather, with a gentle breeze to keep us cool.

Today we saw our winner break the magic 40 number by one shot.  Claus Birk-Thompson pulled off a great round of golf to better his handicap by 5 and win all the handsome man vouchers.  Just behind and with a very respectable 39 points was TGC regular Mark Wood.  Markie just got off the plane from a 28-day rig cycle in Oz so well played to him for a great first round on his land legs.  Gentleman golfer John Hutt found his way with a solid 38 points to put him on the podium at last!

Wednesday, July 16, Khao Kheow B & C (yellow tees) – Stableford

T1st Nick Handscombe (12) 37pts

T1st Andy Makara (23) 37pts

3rd Phil Smedley (9) 34pts

When asked about Khao Kheow, you can only describe this track as one of the best courses in Pattaya.  This is a Pete Dye design and if you stay out of the rough you can score well here.  It was another beautiful day here in Chonburi as a light overcast helped keep the temperature down nicely.

Working our way up the ladder, we see TGC Golf Captain Phil Smedley once again on the rostrum and this time his 34 points was enough for third place.  Andy Makara has shown himself to be a very consistent golfer of late and Andy tied with Nicky Handscombe for first place honours.  Nicky himself also just got back to town for a few weeks getaway and I am sure he is glad to be back if he keeps playing like this!

Friday, July 18, Laem Chabang B & C (white tees) – Stableford

1st Brad Sproxton (12) 39pts

2nd Thierry Danzas (23) 39pts

3rd Lasse Pettersen (24) 38pts

What a lovely golf course Jack Nicklaus has designed for us!  It was with great pleasure that today we introduced several first-timers to this course, and all had rave reviews about it.  Laem Chabang is currently running a summer special with a promo rate of 1,000 baht weekday green fee as they are completely remodeling the clubhouse facilities.  We had a temporary locker room and the showers are down the hall in one of their hotel rooms, so very little inconvenience for us there.

Big Lasse Pettersen plays off 24 but still managed to turn in an equally big 38 on the top of his scorecard for third spot.  Chef to the stars Thierry Danzas and our old pal from Red Deer, Alberta, Brad Sproxton, tied it all with 39 Stableford points to share the win on today’s card.  Thanks to all who joined us this week for some great golf in Amazing Thailand.
