Chumsai petanque tourney raises funds for sports gear

A central Pattaya community raised funds for new sports equipment at a charity petanque tournament.

Organized by the Chumsai Community and Pattaya Provincial Court, the tourney at the community petanque field on Soi Chaloemprkiat 12 Sept. 17 attracted 35 two-person youth teams from across the country.

The competition was split into four divisions, including teams of two, co-ed teams of two, youths under 14 years old, and VIP sponsor teams.  Awards also were given to the best “slammer” and most-accurate shooter.

The winning teams were the Palangkusom team, which won 2,000 baht; the Keha team, which won 1,000 baht; and the Kanchanamanee and Cat teams, which won 500 baht each.

In addition, 10,000 baht in sports equipment and scholarships were presented to youths from Bangkok, Samut Songkram and Samut Sakhon who participated.

Money raised from entrance fees and sponsors will also go to help pay for sports equipment for the local community.
