Travellers Rest Golf Group

Well there is only one story to tell you about this week and a very happy one it is too.  Two of our golfers got married this to each other, and yes, one was male and one was female just in case you were wondering.  So it gives me great pleasure to announce that Charlie Cox has got hitched to Rungratree Puangsal and may I offer my congratulations and wish them a very happy life together.

I also hope they take an extended honeymoon so it gives the rest of us a chance to win a golf competition because this past week the happy couple just about cleaned up.  They both got their special week off to the best possible start by winning at Emerald and Rungratree took second place at Phoenix on Friday.

Monday, June 8, The Emerald – Stableford

Monday saw the TRGG head over to Emerald under very threatening skies and we didn’t have to wait long before the umbrellas came out.  Still, the precipitation was not bad enough to affect play for long and we all made the best of it.

Such was the number of participants that two divisions were necessary and in Division 1 Rungratree Puangsal outmuscled the men to take top spot by coming home with 35 points.  Mike Sanders slipped in to second place one point behind and my old sparring partner Roger Wilkinson took third place with 33.

In Division 2, Charlie Cox started the week just as he finished it, in seventh heaven.  He rattled off 40 points in very trying conditions, which was quite a remarkable score on flooded greens.  Mind you it needed to be that good because Scotsman Jimmy Cooper was only one point behind on 39.  Robert Cannon played a good round, I know because I marked his card, but was some way behind the front two and finished third on 32.

Div. 1 (0-13)

1st Rungratree Puangsal (12) 35pts

2nd Mike Sanders (7) 34pts

3rd Roger Wilkinson (12) 33pts

Div. 2 (14+)

1st Charlie Cox (16) 40pts

2nd Jim Cooper (15) 39pts

3rd Robert Cannon (19) 32pts

Wednesday, June 10, Burapha – tableford

On Wednesday it was a swift return to Burapha (A and B courses).  We all like Burapha but it is virtually impossible to book a tee time in the High Season as the rest of Asia seems to like Burapha as well, so we are making the most of the quiet time here.

On the day it was the single handicappers who dominated proceeding with 9-handicapper Neil Bramley just getting the better of 7-handicapper Mike Sanders.  Billy Allan intervened on behalf of us lesser golfers by taking third place.

1st Neil Bramley (9) 39pts

2nd Mike Sanders (7) 38pts

3rd Billy Allan (17) 37pts

Friday, June 12, Phoenix – Stableford

Now I have said it before and I shall say it again, but Phoenix gives the ladies too big an advantage and so it was on Friday where the men turned up to play a golf course and the ladies turned up to play a pitch and putt course.  I am not having a go at the ladies, they can only play what is put in front of them but we have some good lady golfers in our ranks and I am sure they must sometimes feel embarrassed at how easy it is for them.

We played Mountain and Ocean courses and it was Tewin Poopay Lamthong who finished top of the leaderboard, with soon to be married Rungratree Puangsal enjoying her last day of freedom taking second place.  The best man on the day turned out to be Jim Cleaver but even he could not catch the two ladies.

1st Tewin Poopay Lamthong (10) 36pts

2nd Rungratree Puangsal (12) 34pts

3rd Jim Cleaver (9) 33pts

Good luck to all you golfers for the coming week and if you would like to play a round of golf with the TRGG please phone Fergus Brennan on 086 056 7019 or pop into the Ned Kelly Bar in Soi Lengkee and add your name to the weekly lists which are posted on the notice board.
