Monday, Nov. 6, Phoenix Gold – Stableford

The Phoenix Gold golf course was our venue for today, playing Lakes and Ocean loops which are the easier nines in the scribe’s opinion and always a pleasure to play.  I must comment on the new ratings on the cards though they are a little confusing to say the least, each nine holes is now rated 1 to 9.

The scoring was very good but there were a few mistakes but nothing that couldn’t be overcome.  There was a three-way count-back for 2nd, 3rd and 4th with George Barrie being relegated to the last spot on the podium, the bronze going to Bob Scott, and silver to A.J. Beasley, all on 35 points.  First place was taken by Sandy Chapo with a fine showing of 80 off the bat to score 42 points.

There three ‘2’s, coming from George Barrie, Brett Gale and Bob Philp.

Wednesday, Nov. 8, Green Valley – Stableford

The high season is here and has burst forth like a damp squid for Green Valley was as empty as a discarded bottle of beer.

The greens were a little slower this week so perhaps that contributed to 6 male golfers submitted their cards with 38 points.  Colm Lawler occupied fourth place with 18 points on the back-nine, one less than Graig Green in third and leaving 4 others thinking about that missed putt or the approach shot that went through the green.  A gentleman called Seil came second with 39 points but last week’s winner William Macey once again had 40 points despite a blob on the last.

In the ladies competition Miss Som missed out for a place on the podium with 33 points, mainly due to 3 blobs on the back nine.  She was just headed by Miss Sa despite 3 blank holes in her first nine holes while Miss Lynn was the bridesmaid today with 37 points.  Three ahead was the winner Miss Sasicha who recorded 16 points in 5 holes and a blob on the last.  She also had two ‘2’s while Miss Som had some consolation with a 2, as did Gary Ritchie.

Friday, Nov. 10, Burapha – Stableford

Playing a different combination at Burapha today we were put onto B and D as there was a junior tournament being played on the A and C loops.  The course was in great condition but the rough on the D side was absolutely brutal if you found the ball it was by pure chance and if you could get it onto the fairway you were very lucky indeed.  The greens were as slick as you could get with three-putts on some.

The scoring was quite good with Rick Culley taking fourth place with 34 points, in third was Colm Lawler with 35 and second went to Thiery Temine with 37.  Richard Steadman took line honours with 38 points.

There were seven ‘2’s, coming from Bob Philp, J.J. Harney, Nipper Truscott, Francis Goyons, Gerard Lambert and Richard Steadman (2).
