PSC Golf from The Outback Golf Bar

Monday, June 22, Burapha C & D – Stableford

We played C and D and as usual at Burapha of late, we got away very early and were virtually the only ones on the course, which was in great condition.  It was an overcast day with a light breeze which made for pleasant golf weather.

We welcomed a new player with the Outback, Peter Moon, and also the return of Dave Buchanan, fresh from winning his club championship.  Dave played of -1 and recorded a great two under par round to win with 37 points  from Maurice Copan and Peter Frost, both with 36.  Peter Nixon was next with 34 and John Cunningham came fifth on 33.

(Left-right) Andy Butts, Kevin Mackintosh, Sugar Ray, Dave Hewson and Ian Fraser.

Peter Frost & John O’Keefe (C5), Pete Stonebridge (C8) and Maurice Copan (D2) all had ‘2’s.

Outback opinion: Weather – fine & cool; Check in – quick & friendly as ever; Tee time – early; Fairways – fast; Rough – light; Greens – medium, true; Bunkers – good; Value for money – very good; Pace of play – 3½ hours; Drink stations open – all open.

1st David Buchanan (-1) 37pts

2nd Maurice Copan (15) 36pts

3rd Peter Frost (19) 36pts

4th Peter Nixon (9) 34pts

5th John Cunningham (5) 33pts

Tuesday, June 23, Laem Chabang A & C – Stableford

With 17 players in total we could have done with some extra tee times but Laem Chabang, being one of Pattaya’s premier courses and busy on Tuesdays, meant we couldn’t get any additional slots.  Now that we sorted out with management to play the C course as the second 9, the course played great with 2 groups electing to play the difficult blue tees on A and C courses, and the other 2 groups preferring the whites.

The highlight of the day was Ian Fraser’s eagle 2nd shot from 185 yards on the par four 3rd hole on the A course.  That’s a novel and special way to get into the ‘2’s club!

Two of our blue tee players made the top five; Andy Butts came in fourth place with a respectable 32 points, losing on count back to Sugar Ray who lost on count back to Dave Hewson, both playing from the white tees.

They say the good corks always rise to the top, and that was certainly the case with Kevin Mackintosh, navigating the blue tees off an adjusted 5 handicap beautifully, he emerged our winner with 33 points.

There were two ‘2’s from Ian Fraser (A3) and Bob Finley (B8).

1st Kevin Mackintosh (05) 33pts

2nd Dave Hewson (03) 32pts

3rd Sugar Ray Handford (18) 32pts

4th Andy Butterworth (12) 32pts

5th att Timbrell (06) 30pts

Friday, June 26, Green Valley – Stableford

It was a peculiar week for golf culminating in Green Valley being lost to the weather today.  Perhaps some were a little hasty to leave maybe because of the cored and sanded greens but we had one four-ball wait around for not much more than 30 minutes or so, who went on to enjoy their round with no rain.  Surely most golfers in Thailand know by now how quickly the weather can change and anyhow, what else are you going to do all day?  Good on yer Mick, Sugar, JP and Aidan for your patience.
