June through to September is supposed to be the Low Season for tourists visiting Thailand, and in previous years the average turnout on any golf day has struggled to reach double figures. This year is proving to be an exception however and last week the numbers turning up to play were been nothing short of amazing, especially as tuning into the World Cup is keeping them up half the night.
Monday, June 16, Plutaluang – Stableford
Today was lottery day and a case of ‘déjà vu’ for the TRGG as for the second Monday running they headed off to play the Navy Course at Plutaluang (North and West courses).

Two divisions were required because of the increased numbers and in Division 1 it was the usual suspects heading the field. Neil Bramley is proving very difficult to shift from the No.1 slot on most days and so it proved once again, with him shooting the best score of the day over the two divisions. Another top player, Daryl Ottaway, came second and Thomas Nilsson slotted into third place.
As I said it was lottery day and some of my so called friends have told me more than once that I have more chance of winning the lottery than winning a golf competition. Guess what? I didn’t win the lottery but I did win the golf. The old Scotty Cameron was on fire and I hardly missed a putt all day. It was also good to get the better of two Aussies, Bob Cannon and Derek Thorogood, although they gave me a good run for my money.

Wednesday, June 18, St. Andrews – Stableford
On Wednesday it was off to St Andrews, the Thai version that is, not the Scottish one, and it was a Thai and a lady to boot who showed all the boys her tail to lead them to the winning post.

The newly built Mod Chaviraksa (she doesn’t actually have a tail by the way) jetted into first place, leaving Noel Pittard, in second and Jon Dean in third to pick up the lesser prizes.

Friday, June 20, Pattana – Stableford
The TRGG rounded off a good week with a trip to Pattana. Scotsman Jim Cooper, the Aberdonian with a voice straight out of the Glasgow Gorbels (it certainly frightens me), was first past the winning post. Derek Thorogood had another good day to finish in second place and Jim Ray took third spot.
