Monday, Sept. 11, Eastern Star – Stableford

1st Colin Smith (13) 35pts

2nd Bob Watson (5) 35pts

3rd Greg Gawron (17) 33pts

Colin Smith, the happy Welshman, has been playing very good, consistent golf.  So much so that his win today took him to the top of the leaderboard in our “Golfer of the Month.”

Apart from the first three placings, scores were pretty ordinary, in that 5 of the players had 26 points.  But it was Colin and his new found buddy Bob Watson who raced away from the others, both scoring 35 points but with Colin doing better on the back nine.

Greg Gawron is not a name that arises very often in the results, but today he managed a respectable 33 points to take third spot on the podium.

The best nines for non-winners came from Adam Barton (front – 16pts) and Steve Hughes (back 18pts).

Wednesday, Sept. 13, Pattana G.C. – Stableford

1st John Carlton (11) 38pts

2nd Paul Smith (2) 37pts

3rd Stephen Hughes (11) 36pts

B Flight

1st Adam Barton (13) 41pts

2nd Phil Davies (12) 38pts

3rd Greg Gawron (17) 33pts

Pattana lived up to its normal high standard today.  We played B & C courses and the fairways were cut to near perfection while the greens in very good order.

The “B” flight topped the scoring with a great effort from 13-handicapper and regular visitor, Adam Barton.  I watched on as he put together a big 41 points.  Phil Davies ran a good second to Adam, amassing a very respectable 38 points, and that name Gawron appeared again for the second game in a row, Greg was in third spot with 33.

In the “A” flight, it was visitor John Carlton scoring a winning 38 points and another memorable round came from the talented Paul Smith.  Off a playing handicap of 2 he scored 37 points (73 gross) but it was only good for second place.  Stephen Hughes, playing his second game with us, did well with 36 points for third.

Near pin prizes for went to Greg Gawron (B3), John Carlton (B7), Masa Tanako (C2) and Bob Watson (C7).

The best front and back nines for non-winners came respectively from Steve Truelove (20pts) and Bill Winslow (18pts)

Friday, Sept. 15, Pattaya C.C. – Stableford

1st Adam Barton (13) 43pts

2nd Stephen Hughes (11) 42pts

3rd Vero Morgan (27) 40pts

4th Derek Phillips (28) 38pts

An eleventh hour change of plans saw us at Pattaya Country Club two weeks earlier than scheduled.  All were happily surprised there had been a vast improvement of the course from earlier experiences.

There were plenty of players who returned very handsome score cards and the biggest of them all was, once again, Adam Barton with a scintillating 43 points to outdo his 41 from Wednesday.

Stephen Hughes stayed in Pattaya briefly as a stopover and played just three games with us, and ran a very close second to Adam, handing in a 42 points card, before racing to the airport for the trip home.

Vero Morgan, like Bob Watson before her, vowed never to wear the “Wig” again, and made sure of it with a terrific return of 40 points.

Fourth place went to Derek Phillips, whose game, like some others, is a bit up and down.  Today 38 points was a definite up.

We decided to have four near pin prizes for this round and these were won by John Carlton, Colin Smith, Bill Winslow and Stephen Hughes.

The best front-nine for non-winners came from Maurice Roberts (19pts) and back-nine from Mike Allidi with 17 points.
