PSC Golf from The Billabong Bar

Monday, March 25, Phoenix Gold – Stableford

Just a slight precipitation as we left the bar which turned into a full blown storm as we travelled to Phoenix, but as is the usual here in Thailand it didn’t last that long and we were away all on the course by 9.15 am. Carts were allowed on the course albeit in the rough only on the Lakes side and even after the rain the course wasn’t that wet.

The scoring was fantastic with Jack Piercefield scoring 38 points to take 3rd, Paul Walia came 2nd with 39 points and Graham (Rotheram) Beaumont took 1st spot with a magnificent 43 points, The conditions must have been right up his alley. Oh and Graham got the only two of the day that was almost a hole in one and promptly bought everyone a drink.

Wednesday, March 27, Green Valley – Medal

Today was the culmination of 12 monthly medals since March last year, kindly sponsored for the past 4 years by Brian Chapman of Haven Consultants. One male and 1 female from each month’s competition come together in March to determine this year’s champion. This event is always well supported and today was no exception with 42 golfers lined up on the 1st tee.

The ladies always leave the men in the shade on these occasions. Miss Thip (16) upped her game after the turn for a net 73 to come fouth, with Miss May (11) in third with 8 pars in her round and a net 71. Miss Noodle (14) had a very solid round with 8 pars on her card and a net 69 but she lost out on a countback by just one shot to Miss Poopay (11) who becomes this year’s champion.

In the men’s competition Wayne Cotterell (12) stumbled on the back nine with only 1 par for a net 75 and 5th place losing on a countback to Dave Smith Jnr. (22) despite him having trouble on the par 5s. Glen Ellsworth (13) took 3rd place with a net 73 dropping only 5 shots on the way home. A similar situation occurred with the men as the ladies for although Tony Oakes (14) finished in 2nd place, recovering well from dropping 7 shots in the first 3 holes, for a net 72 to win the first monthly medal of this year’s competition, for the day’s winner and this year’s champion was Auke Engelkes (12) with a net 70 overcoming 3 double bogies on the back nine.

We had five 2s today, going to Miss Poopay, Auke, Cottee, John Anderson and Barry Copeskate.

The monthly scramble with 11 groups playing at the Phoenix Gold Golf and Country Club and the course itself was in magnificent condition with the exception of the greens, which were a little slow.

The scoring was very good as it is not too often any group will give this course a going over but today saw the team of Gary Ritchie, Auke Engekles, Arch Armstrong and Bob Newell scoring 58.2 net and coming in 3rd place. Brad Jordison, Peter Jueckens. Paul Beck and On Phristet placed second with a score of 57.1, but in tp spot was the quartet of Paul Greenaway, Paul O’Mahoney, Steve Dodd and Andrew Skaiffe with 56 net, scoring 12 birdies off their 4 handicap – a great score indeed!
