Ripley’s World gave a nod to the Pattaya’s huge Chinese tourist population by adding a character from a mainland television show to its Louis Tussaud’s Waxworks.

General Manager Waranyu Thipayamontri on Feb. 17 took the wraps off the “Empress of China”, a replica of 7th century Empress Regent Wu Zetian, as portrayed by producer Fan Bingbing in the 2014 Hunan Television show.

The lifelike wax figure, which debuted for Chinese New Year, shows Fan dressed in the costumes and makeup in the program, the most-expensive ever produced for Chinese television. The series is based on events in 7th and 8th-century Tang dynasty and centers on Wu, the only empress in Chinese history.

Ripley’s rewarded the first 200 people to see the exhibit with free entry and gave couples 200-baht gift certificates to create wax replicas of them holding hands as a Valentine’s gift.

Throughout the month Ripley’s World is also offering couples special ticket packages for 666 and 888 baht.
