BANGKOK, Thailand – The Thai government is accelerating investment in future industries and infrastructure to enhance economic competitiveness and maintain fiscal discipline, following S&P Global Ratings’ affirmation of Thailand’s sovereign credit ratings. Deputy Government Spokesperson Lalida Persvivatana announced on November 7, 2026, that S&P maintained Thailand’s foreign-currency rating at BBB+ and local-currency rating at A-, both with a stable outlook, in its November 4 review.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Ekniti Nitithanprapas reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting new industries, enhancing competitiveness, and maintaining fiscal stability to encourage long-term investment. The government is prioritizing advanced technologies, offering tax incentives for data center investments, integrating Thai businesses into global artificial intelligence (AI) supply chains, and supporting research, development, and technology training.
S&P stated that ongoing investment in these areas could enhance Thailand’s competitiveness and long-term growth potential. Infrastructure development is also a priority, especially projects under the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) and national transportation plans. Investments will involve state enterprises and public-private partnerships (PPPs), with careful assessment of project value, financial obligations, and fiscal risks.
The government also aims to ensure that investments in future industries create opportunities for Thai entrepreneurs, support technology transfer, and develop workforce capabilities. The spokesperson clarified that S&P’s latest assessment reaffirms Thailand’s existing ratings and does not constitute a credit rating upgrade. She confirmed the government will continue to balance investment promotion with fiscal discipline to support economic stability and sustainable long-term growth. (NNT)
