CHAINAT, Thailand – A good Samaritan alerted police after seeing a man apparently prying open an ATM outside a convenience store in Chainat province, only for officers to discover that he was a technician repairing the machine. The incident occurred at 4.04 p.m. on October 22 opposite the evening market in Chainat Municipality, Mueang Chainat district. Police received the report and promptly went to investigate.
On arrival, officers found that the man was an employee of an ATM maintenance company, carrying out repairs after a customer had reportedly been unable to withdraw cash because the machine failed to dispense the money. The technician was wearing his company uniform, with its logo clearly visible, and was using standard repair equipment in broad daylight while people passed by.
The unusual incident left the technician surprised, although the caller had acted out of concern after suspecting a theft in progress. The case served as a reminder that suspicious activity can be worth reporting, even when there is an innocent explanation.
