PATTAYA, Thailand – Thailand’s Meteorological Department has warned of continued heavy to very heavy rain in parts of the country through October 25, with Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat among the eastern provinces facing impacts.

In its eighth warning, issued at 5 p.m. on October 20, the department said rain would continue across the South from October 21–25, with heavy to very heavy falls in some areas. Rainfall is also expected to increase in the lower Northeast, lower Central region, upper South, Eastern region, Bangkok and surrounding provinces. Isolated areas may experience strong wind gusts.

Authorities warned that prolonged heavy rain and accumulated rainfall could cause flash floods, forest runoff and landslides, particularly on hillsides near waterways and in low-lying areas. Residents were advised to monitor weather updates, plan travel carefully and avoid routes prone to repeated flooding.

The warning is linked to a monsoon trough crossing the central South, the southwest monsoon over the lower Andaman Sea, and easterly winds affecting Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand as a high-pressure system spreads from China into the upper North, upper Northeast and South China Sea.

Seas in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand may have waves exceeding three meters in thunderstorm areas. Boat operators have been advised to navigate with caution and avoid sailing through thunderstorms.

The department’s daily outlook listed Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat among eastern provinces affected on October 20, with Rayong and Chanthaburi also listed for October 23. Southern provinces are expected to face continuing rainfall on several days during the warning period.

Residents can follow updates at the Thai Meteorological Department website, www.tmd.go.th, or call 1182, available 24 hours a day. The next announcement was scheduled for 5 a.m. on October 21.
