BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Prof. Dr. Yodchanan Wongsawat announced Thailand’s entry into the World Bank’s Human Capital Project as its 101st member on October 16. Speaking at the 2026 IMF–World Bank Group Annual Meetings in Bangkok, he detailed plans to improve healthcare, education, workforce skills, and early childhood development.
Yodchanan identified five priorities: reducing healthcare disparities through artificial intelligence, improving education and workforce skills, investing in early childhood research, promoting lifelong learning, and narrowing regional inequalities. Key measures include AI-assisted learning, worker reskilling programs, a national well-being committee, and a credit bank system to support continuing education.
Thailand also launched an early childhood development program with the World Bank to expand access to quality childcare and learning services nationwide. The program will involve private sector participation, with the government overseeing financing, performance, and quality standards. Rajabhat Universities will provide training and professional support for childcare personnel.
The World Bank will assist with implementation, with plans to expand the program to communities across Thailand. The deputy premier stressed the importance of investing in people alongside technological advancement to improve living standards and ensure broader access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.
