CHIANG MAI, Thailand – Chiang Mai International Airport is pressing ahead with the construction of key support facilities as part of preparations for its Phase 1 development project, with the work valued at more than 731 million baht.

The project includes a new fire and rescue station to support airport safety operations, a cargo warehouse to handle air freight and logistics, and Control Post 2, together with a ground support equipment (GSE) parking area to facilitate airport operations.

The facilities are intended to prepare the airport’s infrastructure and operational capacity for its next phase of development, supporting future growth in air travel and airport services.

Construction began in July 2025 and is scheduled for completion in June 2028. As of October 2026, the project was approximately 15% complete.

While passengers primarily see terminals, check-in counters and boarding gates, the airport’s supporting infrastructure also plays a vital role in safety, cargo handling and the smooth operation of flights. These facilities form part of the groundwork needed to accommodate the airport’s future development.
