BANGKOK, Thailand – The Customs Department has strengthened facilitation and security measures at Suvarnabhumi Airport as Thailand welcomes delegates to the 2026 IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings. Customs Department Director-General Phantong Loykulnanta stated that the department will assist all arriving and departing participants, including around 400 senior delegates such as World Bank and IMF executives, finance ministers, and central bank governors from over 191 countries.

Over 100 additional customs officers, including staff proficient in English, have been deployed at Suvarnabhumi Airport to support customs procedures and ensure efficient arrivals and departures. Authorities have coordinated flight information, passenger lists, photographs, baggage details, and other relevant data in advance to facilitate screening and baggage handling.

Special arrangements have been made for declared items and equipment, including those requiring prior authorization. X-ray equipment and designated channels are prepared to facilitate inspections and minimize repeated baggage checks when no suspicious circumstances are found.

The Customs Department has established contingency plans with airlines and Airports of Thailand, including procedures for delayed baggage. A dedicated command room at Suvarnabhumi Airport monitors flight and passenger movements and coordinates assistance.

The Director-General noted that passenger traffic is expected to increase from October 11 to 14 and advised travelers to allow extra time for airport procedures. He also encouraged Thais to welcome international visitors and support Thailand’s role as host of the global meetings. (NNT)
