SATTAHIP, Thailand – Sattahip Mayor Wasan Siangchi visited a 73-year-old woman living alone in a rented room on October 11 after receiving concerns from local residents about her living conditions. The mayor visited the woman with municipal council members and representatives from other agencies to assess her situation and discuss appropriate assistance. They also provided an emergency relief package to help ease her immediate difficulties.

The woman told officials that her daughter brought food to her every day. Her daughter, however, said she had limited time to provide close care for her mother. Officials also found that rent on the room had gone unpaid for several months. Although the woman currently lives within Sattahip Municipality, her name is registered in the household records of Khet Udomsak Subdistrict Municipality. Sattahip officials therefore coordinated with the latter municipality’s Social Welfare Division to review her eligibility for assistance and determine the most appropriate support. The agencies and community representatives are working together to identify suitable ways to ensure the elderly woman receives appropriate care and improves her quality of life.
