PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya Mayor Poramet Ngampichet inspected progress on the underground power and communications cable project along Pattaya Second Road on October 8, confirming that the remaining poles and overhead wires are expected to be removed by March 2027. The inspection took place near Central Pattaya shopping mall, where road improvements have raised questions among the public about why power poles and communications cables remain in place.
Poramet said the removal of the overhead infrastructure is part of Pattaya City’s wider streetscape improvement program, carried out in cooperation with the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA).
Under the schedule, the PEA plans to begin removing communications cables on the eastern side of Pattaya Second Road in November, followed by the opposite side in December. All communications cables are expected to be removed by the end of 2026, leaving the electricity cables and poles for the next stage. The remaining power cables and poles are scheduled for removal in the first quarter of 2027, with completion expected around March.

Pattaya Second Road is the seventh route in a program covering nine roads where the city and PEA are working to move overhead electricity infrastructure underground. Six routes have already had their power poles removed, while work on the remaining routes is still under way.
Other planned routes include Pattaya Third Road, between the Central Pattaya and North Pattaya intersections, and South Pattaya Road, from the entrance to Walking Street to the Communications intersection. Jomtien Second Road, designated route 10, is also under way.
A further project is planned for the Pattaya–Naklua Road corridor. Pattaya City and the PEA are preparing to share the investment costs equally, with each side contributing 50 percent.
The program aims to improve the appearance of major roads and reduce overhead electricity and communications cables along key routes across Pattaya.
