BANGKOK, Thailand – Tourist Police are preparing enhanced security and visitor assistance for the IMF–World Bank Group Annual Meetings 2026, which Thailand will host at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center from October 12–18. Tourist Police Commissioner Pol Lt Gen Phongsiam Meekhanthong presided over a readiness inspection and personnel deployment ceremony at the Tourist Police Division 1 headquarters on October 10. Senior officers and personnel attended the ceremony ahead of the international gathering.
The operation follows government and Royal Thai Police policies, with three main objectives: ensuring safety, keeping travel moving smoothly and minimizing disruption to the public.
Resources include bicycle and vehicle patrols for areas with high concentrations of residents and tourists, a CCOC Mobile operations vehicle to support command and coordination, six unmanned aircraft operation vehicles and aerial surveillance drones to monitor locations, assess situations and help officers respond promptly to incidents.
The Tourist Police Bureau will coordinate closely with relevant agencies to protect meeting participants, tourists and the public, while maintaining smooth travel and limiting the impact on daily life. After the ceremony, Pol Lt Gen Phongsiam joined officers for lunch, with tom yum noodles and chicken rice prepared for the personnel. The meal was intended to encourage officers and recognize their work ahead of the major security assignment.
