BANGKOK, Thailand – Jaithai Upakarnitikaset, Director-General of the Department of Information and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has dismissed Cambodian reports claiming that the United States pressured Thailand to halt actions that would heighten tension or encroach on Cambodian territory.
The Director-General confirmed that no such discussions took place during recent high-level talks with the U.S. in New York and Bangkok. She noted that the inaccurate reports reflect a recurring attempt to distort facts for domestic political purposes, and that such misrepresentation does not help build trust or support the cooperative, problem-solving atmosphere between the two countries.
Thailand reaffirms its commitment to resolving differences peacefully through bilateral channels. On the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC), she explained that the mechanism can move forward only when conditions are fully conducive and border areas are completely secure, free from landmines and transnational crime, so that the safety of all personnel is ensured. Thailand will continue to prioritize secure and peaceful bilateral dialogue, with proper safety conditions in place before border discussions move forward. (PRD)
