Deputy Government Spokesperson Patdarasm Thongsaluaykorn says Thailand is extending its Finnish AI maths trial to one academic term across 100 schools.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Education is set to expand a pilot project using a Finnish artificial intelligence (AI) platform to boost mathematics learning, extending the trial from two months to a full academic term across 100 schools to gather classroom data, government officials said on Wednesday.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Patdarasm Thongsaluaykorn announced that the government is pushing to integrate AI into classrooms to assist teachers with learning analytics and personalize education for students, particularly in mathematics. The move follows discussions between Deputy Education Minister Akaranan Kankittinan, representatives from Finnish edtech platform Eduten, and the Embassy of Finland in Thailand. Under the initiative, the AI platform will be tested in 100 schools under the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) at no cost.

Eduten, developed based on research from Finland’s University of Turku, combines AI technology with gamified learning to analyze student performance and help teachers pinpoint areas needing improvement. To properly evaluate its effectiveness, the ministry proposed extending the trial period from two months to one semester—approximately four months—to track student achievement, teacher usage, and overall classroom impact before deciding on a broader rollout.

“The goal of this trial is not just having AI in the classroom, but proving whether it helps children learn better and assists teachers in doing their jobs,” Patdarasm said, adding that Eduten will also collaborate with OBEC to align content with the Thai national curriculum and provide teacher training.
