SRIRACHA, Thailand – A factory-working couple enjoying a day off by the sea in Sriracha made an unusually big catch after casting their fishing net just twice and pulling in two buckets of large tilapia.

The couple was relaxing near the Sriracha Municipality drainage outlet, where a large school of tilapia was seen swimming near the surface of the water on October 4. The fish were believed to have been swept from nearby canals through the drainage system and into Sriracha Bay following heavy rainfall and runoff.

After spotting the large school, the couple decided to try their luck with a net they had brought with them. After only two casts, they had caught enough large tilapia to almost fill two buckets.

The fish were notably large, with many bigger than the size of an adult palm, leaving the couple and nearby onlookers delighted by their unexpected catch. The man said they did not intend to sell the fish. Instead, they planned to take them home to cook for the family, make some into dried fish for longer-term storage and share some with relatives and fellow factory workers. For the couple, a simple day of relaxation by the sea turned into an unexpectedly successful fishing trip.
