MAE HONG SON, Thailand – Authorities arrested two men during a late-night operation at a cafe near Pai Walking Street after an undercover purchase allegedly uncovered the sale of several types of drugs to tourists. The operation was carried out late on October 3 after provincial and district authorities received information about suspected drug sales at a cafe in Pai district. The operation was ordered by Mae Hong Son Governor Wiboon Waewbandit and Pai District Chief Naphon Pahumantho, with officials from the district security team working alongside Pai police, Border Patrol Police Company 336 and Tourist Police.

Officials sent an undercover officer to make a purchase before moving in to arrest two suspects. They were identified as a 24-year-old Thai man from Nong Han district in Udon Thani province and a 49-year-old Lao national. Police seized 0.5 gram of ketamine in one packet, 26 packets of powdered psilocybin mushrooms weighing 1 gram each, seven additional packets of ketamine weighing 0.5 gram each, 0.5 gram of cocaine, four ecstasy tablets, two bottles containing liquid made from psilocybin mushrooms and 2,200 baht in marked money used in the undercover purchase.

Authorities allege the suspects jointly sold or possessed ketamine and psilocybin mushrooms for sale for commercial purposes and in a manner that could contribute to the spread of drugs in the community. They also face allegations of jointly possessing and selling ecstasy and cocaine without permission. The two suspects were taken to Pai Police Station for further investigation and legal proceedings.
