
BANGKOK, Thailand – At the invitation of Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste will make an official visit to Thailand as a guest of the Royal Thai Government on 9-10 October 2026. This is the first official visit to Thailand by a Timorese Prime Minister in 13 years, and the first since Timor-Leste became the 11th member of ASEAN. It also paves the way for the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2027.
What’s on the agenda
Both leaders will hold bilateral talks at Government House to strengthen cooperation in:
– Development
– Defense and security
– Countering transnational crime
– Trade and investment
– Food security and energy
– Tourism and people-to-people ties
– Collaboration within the ASEAN framework
The program also includes an agreement exchange ceremony, a joint press conference, and an official luncheon. Thailand and Timor-Leste have shared close ties since Thailand participated in the peacekeeping mission in 1999, with Thailand remaining steadfast in supporting Timor-Leste’s socioeconomic development.
