SATTAHIP, Thailand – A 36-year-old Myanmar worker was found dead on Tawan Ron Beach in Na Jomtien early on October 2, with police investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
Na Jomtien Police received a report at about 6 a.m. that a man had been found unresponsive in the water near Tawan Ron Beach, Soi Na Jomtien 46, in Sattahip district. Police and rescuers from Sawang Rojanatham Sathan Sattahip Foundation went to the scene.
The deceased was identified as Nay Win, 36, a Myanmar national. He was found lying face down on the sand wearing a black-and-white T-shirt and black shorts. Initial examination found no visible signs of a struggle or injuries suggesting an assault. A local resident, 42-year-old Supaporn Phailun, told police that a child who had been fishing nearby ran to tell residents that someone was lying face down in the water. Residents went to check and found the man had already died before notifying authorities.
Investigators learned that Nay Win worked at a nearby construction camp and reportedly often drank alcohol while sitting on the beach. Police initially suspected that he may have been heavily intoxicated and either entered the sea or accidentally fell into the water during the night before drowning. However, police have not reached a final conclusion about the cause of death. Rescuers were instructed to take the body to the Institute of Forensic Medicine at Police General Hospital for a detailed post-mortem examination. The forensic findings will be used to establish the exact cause of death before authorities coordinate with the worker’s employer and relatives regarding the body.
