Thai Airways CEO Chai Eamsiri leaves after the board removed him following severe baggage delays and ground-handling disruptions.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The board of Thai Airways International on Friday suspended and removed Chief Executive Officer Chai Eamsiri from his post following severe ground-handling disruptions and baggage delays at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The board held a special meeting chaired by Lavaron Sangsnit, Permanent Secretary for Finance and Thai Airways board chairman, to address critical labor shortages that have led to widespread luggage delays and flight disruptions in recent days.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Chai confirmed that the board voted to suspend him and remove him from his position as Chief Executive Officer effective Oct. 2. Chai stated he accepted the decision despite feeling it was unfair, given his efforts to lead the carrier through past crises, adding that he accepted full responsibility for the operational failures.

Airline staff gathered to show support for Chai as he departed after delivering his statement. The national carrier’s board met to assess the ongoing operational issues and formulate measures to prevent future ground service breakdowns. (TNA)
